“Would go back for the food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

I can see why people say this place is full of character but I'm not sure it's to my taste. Rooms are smallish, fairly dark and lacking the facilities of more modern places. Light bulbs didn't work and hot water seemed in short supply. As a poor sleeper I had asked for a rear facing room but even so you could still hear the road noise quite clearly. It was also the hot spell so rooms were desperately warm.

On the positive side the food is very good - great choice, (too) big portions and tasted really nice. The fish and prawn gratin starter was outstanding and the beef stack would have been a challenge for 2 people to finish but flavours were memorable. The breakfast sausages were also worth going back for. Service was also very pleasant - the staff did everything they could to make me feel at home.

In hindsight I would probably go somewhere a bit more standard and eat here but I can understand why others love the character of the place.

We arrived on the 25 ofJune for three night stay, 2 nights in the cottage which is up a set of challenging stairs that we had been fully warned about, which was beautiful and perfect
If you have a dog as lovely and private.we then moved into the hotel for our final night as cottage was pre booked and our room was lovely and again dog friendly, although the bar isnt when serving food which was a dissapointment when we have been welcomed into many other places at meal times. The food here is delicious and serves local produce but we reccomend you book a table when you book your room as even on week days the bar and resturant is often fully booked. The staff are warm and helpful and happy which is nice to see.
We would never stay anywhere other than here.......so looking forward to our 4th visit.

Lovely hotel full of character. We stayed in room 9b, beautiful suite.
The staff were friendly & helpful, a special mention to Craig a top man.
The food is delicious, complement to the chefs.
Good luck with the 3 peaks.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are best, less noise from the road.

We stayed here for two nights, we stayed in room 9b, we will be back. The hotel was beautiful and very clean. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was exceptional, breakfast was more of the same. Thanks for a lovely stay.

First impressions: We arrived a little early to enquire about check-in times (not stated in booking confirmation) only to be met with a somewhat vacant stare and not even a 'hello'.

However, upon returning later (at Check-in time) we received a slightly warmer reception.

Hotel looks pretty from outside, dated on the ground floor, but pleasant and fresh room and bathroom. Breakfast is huge - so you won't go hungry. (Coffee was a little cold)

Delighted at the sight of a free-standing bath! - But disappointed to find that the cold water tap was just a dribble and the hot water was scalding (bath took forever to fill).

No drinking water provided in the room and no indication of whether bathroom water was drinkable (had to buy bottles from local town)

Based on our experience, we felt the room was a little overpriced.

Whatever you choose off the menu you are in for a treat. Ty Gwyn certainly knows how to tickle your taste buds. I can't fault the food or service. We didn't stay here but ate here 3 times during our week in Snowdonia. Our car broke down during the week and we walked the 6 miles to eat here, we'll worth the effort, on hearing this the landlord actually drove us the 6 miles back to our accommodation! Definitely "above and beyond" ! Thank you very much for your kindness and superb food we will most certainly be back.
The only bad thing about this place is that it's 5 hours away from home!!
