It was buzzing when we went due to the Christmas event on in Betws, but staff were efficient and friendly, we didn't have to wait too long for food, which is always a good quality.

During a long weekend break in wales,we decided to dine in The Stables as we have previously and enjoyed meals we recieved.
Having found a table, my partner fetched the drinks and ordered the food.( Mine being the house special fish+chips)..
When the waitress brought our meals, she knocked over my full drink and quickly wiped the table.
She then asked if i wanted another drink and after saying...
'well yes please' ( a little obvious
?) she asked if we had a tab and on saying no, brought me another drink over and rather surprisingly
asked for payment!!...How was it our responsibility to pay for a drink she knocked over???
We refused to cover the cost and the drink was replaced after some awkwardness...
Unfortunately, the fish i ordered was full of very sharp bones and the rest of the evening was spent pulling bones out, one by one, out of my mouth. Not pleasant and not expected in any kind of restaurant.
On requesting the dessert menu,
we recieved a rather stained menu that had a mushroom slice stuck to it....Really not a good start to a much needed break.
No one expects Michilin Star food in a 'Harvester style' restaurant but half decent service and common sense, edible fish that doesnt need a warning label and tweezers, clean menus and tables really isnt asking for too much...
Is it?

A varied menu serving all your favourites and a specials board too. Not fancy food but very decent and plenty of it. In a place where there isn't much going on in the evening it has a nice buzz and the outdoor seating is great. A very nice place to come to after a day out walking if you can't be bothered to cook.

Food eatable but just so 1970's. Salad served with boiled potatoes plonked on top and consisted of part-shredded ice berg lettuce and cucumber slices. Bleeeghhh. Not exactly show casing the best of Welsh!
