We booked into The Bistro following a recommendation and we were really looking forward to it after seeing some of the reviews on TA. There were some real high points of our meal but also some aspects that were a bit of a let down.

The waiting staff were mostly young and we thought they were excellent. Very welcoming, friendly & genuine and they provided prompt, efficient service throughout. We didn't have to wait long to order or to receive our drinks & food.

Our starters were a mixed affair. The home-made chicken liver pate was excellent (more toast points would have been nice though) but the salmon gravadlax was a bit ordinary and bland.

I had pork fillet for my main course and it was absolutely terrific - really tasty, cooked well, and in a lovely sauce. My wife ordered duck breast and this was disappointing. Although it was cooked perfectly pink the skin needed to be crispier and it was also swimming in a sauce which was far too sweet.
There was a bit of a mix up with our side orders - we ordered two portions of seasonal vegetables and a portion of daupinoise potatoes. We ended up with a half portion of each and then some time later the rest arrived which we politely sent back. To be absolutely fair, none of these side orders were added to our bill and the dauphinoise were excellent!!

We both felt a cost of £30 a head was pretty reasonable particularly as this included a very nice bottle of Chablis which accounted for £22 of the total bill

When we're next in the area we will probably give The Bistro another go because the staff were really good and some of the food was excellent. We hope for more consistency the next time we visit.

After many many visits to Betws Y Coed over many years, on this occasion my wife and I decided on some lunch instead of waiting till we get home on Anglesey. A chalk on blackboard sign offered pork, lamb, or beef sandwiches outside a door we had ignored for all those years. Bistro BYC was overlooked by us in the past because it is just a door with windows to the side. Stepping across the portals showed us that like the Tardis, nothing much on the outside but loadsa room inside.

In short the lamb sandwich I had was heavenly. Tender chunks overflowing the delicious bun and my wife enjoyed the Anglesey Eggs. It was fairly quiet in there, it being a weekday afternoon in February but we were told on enquiry that it does get very busy in season and on certain evenings. We will certainly go through that little door again when we visit BYC.

Highly recommended.

This restaurant has been recommended to us each time we have visited Betws-y-coed but this is the first time we have had the time to enjoy a meal and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I went for the gravadlax to start which was made on the premises and was delicious & it was nice to see so many local ingredients and traditional recipes on a menu. The whole evening was very enjoyable and if we are back in the area we will definitely be back.

Probably the best steak we have eaten in some time was served here. I also had a great fish dish of smoked haddock which was cooked and seasoned very well with a very delicate sauce. The bistro is only small and has a lovely charm. The prices were reasonable and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Lovely Sunday menu which we opted for. Very reasonably priced at £8.95 per main or £12-95 for 2 courses. Meat is lovely and tender, good sized portions and a nice rustic style restaurant. Very enjoyable
