“A hidden gem; social history but off the beaten track”
Reviewed March 4, 2014 via mobile

Swtan is a stone built thatched cottage which has been preserved in time. It was owner occupied until very recent times and now presents as a rare opportunity to see what life was really like over 100 years ago.

I've visited many so called 'heritage sites' over the years. Few match this in capturing both the simplicity, beauty and hardship of day to day life for ordinary folk. This place is exceptional; the location and views, the authenticity, the hands on feel for the property and land. I've visited Anglesey for some 60 years and was unaware that there were thatched properties on the island. This place is a stunning microcosm where day to day life can be seen. There's the property itself, with working fire, outbuildings and garden. And some amazing video recordings by the most recent owner. Walking to a well for water, for example.

If you visit Anglesey, put this on your list of of things to do. The location alone is spectacular and as a bonus, there's a more than half decent restaurant across the road...no table available when I dropped by so hopefully a pleasure yet to come at The Lobsterpot.
