Owner description: The museum is a fascinating experience for the whole family. Step back in time at the oldest lifeboat station in Wales (circa. 1858), Which houses a wonderful collection of exhibits telling the enthralling maritime history of Holyhead. Situated alongside the Maritime Museum, in a Second World War Air Raid Shelter, is the very informative permanent exhibition "Holyhead at War".

“A memorial to Holyhead's importance in the past”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

This little museum has much to show the visitor of Holyhead's importance as a seaport over 100 years ago. It also has a detailed history of the building of the breakwater from around 1850 to 1875 - it is still the longest breakwater in the UK. The staff there are helpful and friendly and for those interested in our Victorian sea history, this is unmissable.

“Lovely to learn the history”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Anglesey and Holyhead offer a lot, the island is lovely to explore and it is nice to know that the Maritime is recognised! We went and visited and really enjoyed our day out on the island! If you enjoy history then the Maritime Museum is for you! It offers lots for the whole family! Coming from a family which are forces, including Naval and volunteer Life Boat Support, this place is an absolute must. Let the kids see what exactly its all about they will love it.

This is the second time we have visited the Holyhead Maritime Museum and it was fabulous. The quiz was very informative and the free gift was very well received.

“Packed with interesting stuff”

Really liked the two guides who showed us absolutely everything and were really interesting guys. We even had a go at winding the war siren, which was great fun (kids would love it).
