We visited the lighthouse after a long coastal walk in the summer. It is separate from the RSPB site - slightly further up the road. Please be warned that they close the island mid-afternoon but this is not clear on the times at the top of the flight of stairs which could mean that you have descend 500 steps for little reward (other than cardiovascular gains and then find the gate shut to the island. Even though we were the last group of the day the lovely lady let us on the island and then proceeded to show us around the lighthouse and the view from the light room. It was very interesting and the view breath-taking. Worth the steps on the way back up the cliff.

After parking at the top of the cliff there are 412 steps down to the bridge. Then you have to climb up inside the lighthouse but only the last few steps are really steep. There is a display on the ground floor and at the top a volunteer gives a 10-15 minute talk which we found very interesting. Then you have to climb the 412 steps back to the top of the cliff. It is not actually too difficult and is well worth the effort and the small fee. Up on the cliff there is an RSPB visitor centre and you can wander round the cliff tops with ease.

The visit to the lighthouse was both popular with locals and visitors. However, according to feedback by locals, it now becomes too expensive. The many steps down to the lighthouse will provide a good calory burn and active exercise. Not suitable for people with certain physical disabilities or in poor health.

Great place the lighthouse is amazing. Long walk but beautiful over the sea really enjoyed it. Amazing scenery over the sea and you can see sea lions and dolphins bobbing up and down from the nature place

Definitely a place to visit if you're in the area. There are several paths to walk along and always a lot to see apart from the lighthouse. The gift shop has a nice selection of items. There are picnic tables and a cafe.

This review doesn’t include entry to the lighthouse. We spent a few days on Anglesey and I was determined to view a sunset. We were there for just over an hour, the views are spectacular and if the weathers good you will be rewarded with a great one. On our visit, you could see Ireland. Dress for a bracing wind though!

It’s ok. A good working lighthouse and good views. The customer service is terrible and it lets it down.

My grandson loves it at South Stack Lighthouse! He is 7 years old and it’s a big adventure for him to navigate the hundreds of steps down to the bridge, across to the lighthouse and climb the spiral stairs to the very top. Once up there, you have fabulous views out to sea and you can have a close look at the lamp. The friendly man at the top will tell you all the details about the history and inner workings of the lighthouse. How far does the light shine? How often does it flash? Have there been any shipwrecks? How many steps do you take there and back? Go and find out ...
