What a nice hotel this is! The original part is a Victorian mansion house and so provides a warm and cosy atmosphere, though there also is an unfortunate modern extension. It's in a quiet position three miles or so out of Llangollen alongside the canal. We had a room on the top floor of the original building with a gorgeous view up the valley towards Llangollen; the room was spacious, warm and comfortable.

The restaurant is in a conservatory, so the original external walls of the house form one side of it, and it's carpeted and heavily curtained so that it's cosy in the evenings. Food and service in the restaurant were good.

The only complaints were that the bar closed at 11pm and there was no real ale. They could have made a lot more money if they had stayed open for another couple of hours.

Pros:
Location, £50 B&B- low price, pleasant restaurant, lovely views, ok public rooms, large parking area, free wifi in conference room and public area, polite staff.
Cons:
Drab bedroom in dire need of refurb.,1980s bathroom, uninspired breakfast and evening meal- mostly out of the freezer and tins, drab small conference room with poor lighting and service- everything had to be requested, staff need proper training.

Probably wouldn't return, even at the low price.

Although the literature for this hotel wants to suggest that this is an up-market country hotel with fine food, the reality is of a run-of-the-mill motel. The room was spacious and clean, but achingly dull, tasteless and out of date in appearance. Food was generally fussy and pretentious, but lacking in quality. Breakfast was a perfectly ordinary buffet event, unfortunately on one occasion at a table which hadn't been cleaned or re-set from the previous evening's dinner. The one lunch I had was a niggardly portion, the tea afterwards offered with those nasty little capsules of UHT milk. I had three dinners : I couldn't have commended any of them. The steak, for which I had to pay extra, was small, and some of the toughest meat I've been served anywhere. The lemonade was flat, the melon rock-hard, the salad unappetising, and some of the other portions stingy. Supposedly a fixed price menu, a lot of the choices at dinner (for each course) are only available at extra cost.

On the credit side, the staff were pleasant and civil. And, in the interests of fairness, I also have to add that the hotel’s predominantly elderly clientele seemed to like the food better than I did.

Be aware that this hotel doesn’t want you to pay with your credit card : peevish little notices warn of a £2.95 surcharge if you do.

Enjoy a great few days inexpensively in this fab hotel with great staff. Make use of free access to partner hotel spa, and enjoy £5 lunches in any of the groups nearby other hotels. Walk 2.5 miles along canal to Llangollen to the steam trains or stroll the village, or walk 2 miles along canal in the other direction to the Pontcysillte viaduct. The horse shoe falls, and lovely pystol raedr walk and waterfalls close by. Get up on the limestone cliffs for a really breathtaking view and puff up to the castle ruins. When completely shattered, return to hotel to dress smartly for dinner and fill up with some really nice food and wine and a bit of chat with the jolly staff.

My wife and I booked to stay for two nights on the 25th/26th October. The hotel is set in a stunning area just underneath the amazing 'Horseshoe Pass' and when entering, although very traditional and grand, the place looks very upmarket. On entering the second floor (Room 15) we were disappointed however. The doors to the rooms are very 70's and this was a let-down. The room itself was good although work does now need to be done. The finish is not great and the mattress was on the hard side. Some time and money does need to be spent on the rooms. The t.v was not wonderful, just an old box type in the corner with seven channels and an intermittent delay on it! This really didn't matter as we spent one day in Chester (about 30 miles away) and came back through the North Wales coast and dropped back into Llangollen. The scenary is genuinely stunning and the town itself is delightful too. The aquaduct is something to see as is the steam train which runs hourly.
Ring the hotel prior to booking online as they honoured a previous offer, we got the two nights for £99.00 including breakfast. I wouldn't pay the normal price of "Rooms from £105.00" for the Bryn, although I might for 'The Wild Pheasant'. We went there to use the complimentary spa and it is far more contemporary and modern.
The breakfast at the Bryn was superb, a traditional buffet full English but we didn't eat in the restaurant choosing instead to use the local 'Bridge End' in Llangollen. A fab short break and we'll definately be back but we'll be checking Late Rooms for the better deals.

Lovely setting in its own grounds. Smashing staff good food, but rooms looking slightly tired. And why you can not get a bottle of house wine, for a fiver,at any of the hotels in Llangollen. When Stephanie does house wine at a fiver, at her hotels in Ruthin and Wrexham.

We stayed for 2 nights and, like others, were worried about our choice having seen the reviews. I have since found out that these reviews are aimed at the owner of the chain of hotels around Llangollen and are personally motivated. Please ignore them. The hotel is in a beautiful location, we had a huge room with a spa bath and the dinner was a very high standard. It is a country hotel and although some might think it old-fashioned, it is right for the area in which it is situated. We found all the staff pleasant and helpful, especially Patrick in the restaurant.
