The building itself is spectacular and full of character, and the location is quite stunning, surrounded by amazing views and scenery. All the staff we dealt with managed to be the right balance of highly professional (as you'd expect of a fairly upmarket hotel) but also very friendly and helpful. Barman Kris was very attentive, though it was a shame there were no proper real ales available, as this kind of country hotel should always have a local brew on tap!

We didn't use the restaurant other than for breakfast but that was very good indeed - I liked the buffet option which meant we could have as much or as little of each ingredient as we fancied! The room (6) was very comfortable and luxurious with terrific views and a lovely big bed. All in all it's not cheap, but you feel like you're getting what you pay for! It's a great place for a luxury treat to get away from it all.

If I had to find a quibble (and it's only a very minor one): the hand dryer in the gents by the bar wasn't working which left me scrabbling around for loo roll to dry my hands, and before that the lights went off in the same loo while in use and left me in pitch darkness (not sure if this is timed or motion activated, but I felt a bit stranded in that cubicle!!)

Room Tip: Room 6 has spectacular views and al ovely big bed - I suspect the newer rooms in the extension are s...

Well we are sitting here in the bar of the hotel after having a great meal. Patrick the Manager was is fantastic he is such a nice man and so accommodating with a great personality. Tracey the reception lady was also very helpful but I feel that she should perhaps be placed on the reception desk and not have to run around helping in the restaurant as customers tend to have to wait around for service. We shall see how the breakfast is in the morning.

Just returned from this lovely hotel after a short break. I can recommend it for anyone wishing to visit Llangollen. The hotel is just outside the town and surrounded by beautiful views of the countryside. Couldn't fault the breakfast and staff were friendly and welcoming.
The aqueduct at Trevor is well worth a visit also the horse drawn canal trip.

I stayed here as part of a walking group and having stayed before we were not disappointed with the food or the choice of menu--the service was excellent in the restaurant -nothing was too much trouble. The bedrooms had been decorated since my last visit with new carpets but the large bath was still there for a long soak with very hot water plentiful!! The setting of this hotel cannot be improved but it is nice to see the improvements being made to bring this lovely hotel up to date -yes the TV is old but who needs a TV with views like we had from our window over the canal and hills beyond!! All the staff were friendly and welcoming and I look forward to staying here again!

My wife and I have just returned from our second stay in this hotel of character with its great view from the dining room and above bedrooms of the Dee Valley looking down towards Llangollen. The ruins of the 13thc castle can also be seen.
As on our first visit we were greeted at reception in a warm and friendly manner and staff remembered us and instantly made us feel at home to celebrate as a couple our 55th wedding anniversary. We stayed for five days at the hotel in a lovely suite good flat screen TV and good WiFi reception. The room was of a good size nicely decorated and
well appointed with a separate sitting area and bedroom with a lovely comfortable canopied bed.Everywhere was kept spotlessly clean and the woodwork within the hotel pictures and furnishing added to the character of its charm. The bar room has an ornate plaster ceiling and large open stone fireplace with log fire in cold weather.
The breakfast and evening meal were of a high standard with varied choices and plentiful portions.
We had a wonderful stay and intend to return again. Our time was made all the better through the friendliness of all the staff and it was great to meet up again with Patrick, Diane,Loraine, not forgetting Lucy (best wishes for July). Thanks we shall be back .
