“Very good food, but the rest falls short”
Reviewed May 10, 2009

When they had lost out booking made a couple of hours before one should have guessed. The saving grace of the Castle is the great food, well cooked and great presentation. Rather basic looking all day Menu were presented to us in the Two Rosette Restaurant, with bar meals, light snacks and fine dining all on one. Very strange portion control, with one main course beautifully presented to a very good fine dining experience, another more like an overgenerous bar meal three of four times the size !! Very understaffed which did not help the overall experience.

Thank you for review and the time you took in writing it. I am sorry that you did not completely enjoy all aspects of your stay with us, and that on this occaison it appears we have fallen a little short. I am glad to read however that you enjoyed our food, if not that the menu was a little confusing to you, perhaps I could try and explain: About a year and half ago we finished the hotel upgrading programme with the completeion of the new restaurant. At that point we decided to change our menu placing the emphasis on good locally sourced produce without the "pomp and circumstance" so to speak. Because of this our menu, and the items on it, allow you order a variety of different dining experiences depending on your mood. So, as you point out, some are big and hearty and good value, such as the steaks and burgers and risottos. And some are more refined and show more skill such as our lamb, sea bass and belly pork. To save paper (and more fuss) we have incorporated all this onto one menu, and to keep it even less fussy, let you eat it all day! Usually this works great because our team here at the Castle will lead you through the menu and point out any highlights and specialities. Unfortunately as you have pointed out it seems that on your visit there was a staffing issue and that you did not get this same experience, and for that I am truely sorry. I do hope that you will re-consider returning to the Castle in the future so that we may show your experince was the "one-off" that we try so very hard to avoid.

We agree with all the other glowing comments-ambience/food/comfort and service.

Our one and only minor gripe was that the bar/eating ares were too warm and stuffy in the evening.
We also wished there was somewhere quieter for residents to sit in the evening-if they just wanted to read over a drink or a coffee.

Thank you for your review and the time you took in writing it! We are all very pleased to read that you enjoyed you stay, sorry about it being a bit stuffy, I'm guessing you stayed on a weekend, or it was busy, because thats the only time it can get a bit stuffy with all the people!! (thats the beauty of old buildings!!) We do also have the lounge which normally is great for quiet drinks, but again, victims of our own success, on the busier nights it's not a quiet as it usually is!! Again thank you for your comments and we all look forward to welcoming you back soon!

The hotel is well located in the middle of Conwy town centre and has more than adequate parking. My wife and I spent two nights here and were pleasantly surprised. We had stayed here at the Castle a few years ago and were impressed by the refurbishment that had occurred since. The staff were polite and efficient. The room was cosy and comfortable with everything that you would need for a short break. Due to the refurbishment all of the beds were new so for those of you that like firm beds you are in for a treat. We did try to change rooms as I have a bad back and the receptionist could not have been more helpful letting us look at a number of different rooms however we decided to stay put as all the beds were the same. The restaurant service was brilliant and the breakfasts were a real treat with locally sourced produce (e.g. sausages from the popular butchers across the road). The evening menu was varied and if you try nothing else have the chocolate desert that takes 20 minutes to prepare – well worth the wait. Overall a really relaxing break in a well located hotel that thoroughly deserves its positive reviews.

My husband and I, and six extended family members, stayed at the Castle Hotel for three days during which time our daughter and her huband had their wedding blessed at Conwy Castle. This was actually our second time staying here, the first being in 2003. I didn't think they could top our 2003 stay, but they did. Our rooms were immaculate as well as gorgeous, the food in both restaurants was absolutely outstanding and the service in all areas was exceptional. Every single person we encountered at this hotel went out of their way to assist us in any way that we asked. I just wish Wales wasn't so far away from Southern California or I'd be going back here on a pretty regular basis!!! I will defintely be going back at some point.

We were looking for somewhere to spend our first wedding anniversary and chose Wales at random. We wanted a dog friendly hotel so looked at a few stes. The castle hotel cropped up repeatedly and we liked the look of the pics. It was a bit more than we had intended to pay(we had been looking at basic bed and breakfasts) so we went for quality not quantity and opted for one night at the Castle as it looked so good and the reviews were so positive. We were totally and utterly happy with that decision and everything we had read was right! The service was excellent, every member of staff were helpful and friendly, the room was beautiful with a stunning view of the castle, especially at night. It was impeccably clean and tidy and the bathroom was lovely. The dog was welcome in all parts except the restaurant and bar (totally fair enough) and he loved it! The location is spot on and easily accessible and the free parking is a definite plus. The food in the evening was delicious and very well priced - the waiting staff were helpful and attentive and happy to offer suggestions. Overall I would totally recommend the hotel to anyone, it was an excellent place for our wedding anniversary and we willd efinitely be back :-)

We often find restuarants a let down in this part of North Wales, not at the Castle Hotel though. We visited there with two friends and had a wonderful evening. The food was excellent and locally sourced. But the one part of the evening that was outstanding was the service. The greeting, the staff in the lovely bar and all the waiting staff in the restuarant, they were all so professional, cheerful and attentive. We look forward to another visit.
