This was a great experience. We enjoyed this much more than the castle. Take the time and use the audio guides because they were very informative. We saw people rushing through, and they missed the best of it because the audio guide pointed out the most interesting details, and the "character voices" made you feel like you were touring the house back in time.

This Elizabethan town house believed to date from 1577,was that of a prosperous merchant and entrepreneur, and has been beautifully preserved by CADW.It contains much of the original plasterwork ,radiantly redecorated, and furniture of the period.A lot of thought has gone into presenting what CADW has described as the 'Finest surviving town house of the Elizabethan era anywhere in the British Isles' (and I for one could not argue).Apart from the decorated and furnished rooms there is a view of the roof timbering , and a cut away section showing wattle and daub construction. There is a small but delightful period garden
The house itself is on three floors, and the many stairs may pose a problem to some. There is a 'secret' side entrance allowing access to the lower floor ,available on application.
The staff were enthusiastic, knowledgable, and helpful.
There is an excellent handbook . A charge is made for entry.
If old buildings interest you ....go for it ! ....excellent!!

I found this by chance, so possibly could do with clearer advertising. This Elizabethan house is full of surprises and well worth a visit. Full of history and lots of information. Use the audio guide. 5* attraction.

We were lucky enough to have a view from our cottage of Plas Mawr and we certainly weren't disappointed when we visited the house. The audio tour definitely made it more interesting and gave us a better understanding of the house. The house was much larger than expected and would definitely recommend a visit if you are in Conwy

Plas Mawr is a great stop in Conwy. The Welsh heritage department (CADW) keeps the house up very well. The audio guide (included in the low admission fee) is lengthy, but it's very engaging and well-done. Several volunteers were there during our visit, and they did a wonderful job of explaining the many Elizabethan era tools and implements. The views from the house tower are well worth the climb!
