Owner description: Built in the late 13th century and reputed to be haunted by a past resident, this picturesque castle was built for King Edward I and is a perfect example of the "concentric castle" design.

There is quite a lot left of the castle, and you're generally free to roam around it, walk the walls, climb the towers etc. There are some excellent views to be had from the walls and towers.

I was disappointed by how little information there was though, especially having just visited Plas Mawr which had a free audioguide or laminated card to take around. We were offered nothing in the castle, and the few signs around the place only dealt with the taking of the castle by the Welsh in 1401. One board stated that the castle was built in a record-breaking 4 years, but did not say which years they were.

One of the best castles in North Wales. Spectacular view for photo's from just across the river. The Castle itself is well preserved with great views of Conwy and the Walls. Take the trouble and effort to climb the spiral staircase to the top of the turret for the best view. Staff very helpful. Family friendly. As a moderately active person in his 60's I had no problem getting round, although I did enjoy on of many forms for a sit down to watch the world go by.
Good, informative notice boards brings the Castle to life making the visit even more rewarding.

We visited Conwy Castle on a recent trip to Snowdonia. There is an admission fee of £4.70 per adult and we got a guide book too which had a tour to follow. We followed the tour in the book and learnt lots of interesting facts about the castle. I would definitely recommend climbing the towers for the panoramic views of Conwy. It took us around 2 hours to go round on the tour, reading about each part of the castle, however there are boards at every point of interest in the castle that give you that extra bit of information and history. Well worth a visit!

I should admit straight away that I don't actually have any kids, but this was the only castle of the 3 we visited that really catered for the little ones. There's a whole story in comic strip form and things to interact with and puzzles to work out as you walk around.

Sadly the Mrs wouldn't let me pick up the kids fun sheet at reception so I was forced to read the grown up bits instead. Still equally informative and entertaining.

Very interesting castle plenty of information boards but would have liked an audio guide & to be able to buy a postcard! What kind of gift shop doesn't sell them! Staff a bit surly.
