“Just don't ignore the serenity”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

I have just read a really negative review of this.. we went last October, unusually for the time of year, we enjoyed good weather with just a few occasional showers which did not detract from our pleasure at all. We booked because we were tired of all inc.foreign excursions and lounging all day because we did not wish to pay for rep. advised trips etc.yet again. I cannot think of a more idyllic way to spend one's time.. as the quote goes "messing about on the river" - even though it's a canal... a pace that actually suits the human spirit and which we all seem to have put on some sort of evolutionary "back - burner". I would say that everyone should experience this at least once in a lifetime...

I, nor she (maybe our excited and interested dog) :could be called new world or in the least affected; we love camping, not keen on hotels, just love to do our own thing as and when. You move on or stay moored at your chosen spot - the decision is entirely yours... the only annoying constraint is the return journey within the allocated time.

If you enjoy pampering in 5 star hotels this is not for you, there are locks to negotiate, people to interact with and views that change all the time... if that seems to suit you.. I implore you... try it once at least!

“A relaxing time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

We also took the Pontcysylite Aqueduct (only problem was when I paid I ask for horse drawn canel trip). However, we were pleasantly suprised and found the journey quite relaxing. Thomas Telford runs both of these trips. You need to allow 2 hours plus for the Aqueduct trip. You may need longer we did intend getting back for the Llangollen steam train (fortunately we did not buy a ticket before) as the Aqueduct is only one way and if there is a problem a bottle neck is caused making every one late. The trip runs with commentary and a lovely cup of tea. I can recommend the Welsh cake Berran Birth (appologies to the Welsh if this is mispelt), if was delisciuos and can be brought in Llangollen and shops there well worth a visit.

“A different experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

It had been our intention to book the trip across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct but arriving late we found ourselves on the 45 minute horse drawn canal trip. We were pleasantly surprised to find this journey to and fro very relaxing,. On returning we booked the trip that we had intended. We were sent to a bus stop near by and was somewhat surprised to find that we were catching a normal bus service to the point of embarkation. Once there we settled onto the electric barge and almost immediately you are on to the Aqueduct which presents amazing views. The commentary throughout is enlightening and the hot chocolate served on board excellent. The negatives are that the trip is unfortunately too long (nearly 2 hours) and the seating a bit cramped.

“A very pleasant and relaxing afternoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

This was a really relaxing and pleasureable experiance. We were taken by bus to the terminal and there we boarded the canal boat. It is a working camal boat so dont expect any luxouries! The two staff aboard were really friendly and willing to answer any questions. The boat made its way over the Llangollen Aqueduct- a very memorable experience. The journey back to Llangollen was only about 4 miles but took almost 2 and a half hours- so relaxing! If you get the oportunity to stand at the rear of the boad, take it as you see far more and are able to talk to the steeresman Andy who is very knowledgeable. We took loads of photos and it is a truly great and relaxing journey. If you are in llangollen its well worth a visit!

“Beautiful scenery, boat overpriced and shabby”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

Have just spent three nights on the Llangollen canal in a boat supplied by Anglo Welsh. The canal, the scenery and tranquility is amazing. It is a wonderful environment to spend a few days in. Unfortunately the shabby state of our boat took the edge off a lovely experience. Granted space is of a premium on a boat, we understand and accept that. However for around £400 a night you would expect to have a bed that had a decent mattress, not a shabby piece of foam or one you could feel every spring in. The boat was also only superficially cleaned, sticky surfaces and grotty couch obviously not cleaned at all. Most of the crockery and cutlery was pretty grubby too. You certainly don't get what you pay for here.
