“So happy to return”
Reviewed March 10, 2012

There can't be many places in the world where you would gladly drive 150 miles for a days visit. Matt & Lisa's restaurant is certainly one of those - and I would do it again in an instant! From the moment you step through the door, you feel welcome in this beautiful building. Stylish uncluttered dining tables & comfortable chairs (the furniture is hand made), Welsh flagstone floors & log burning stoves all combine to give a feeling of wamth & comfort. A leather sofa & chairs allows you to relax & browse the constantly changing, seasonal menu over a drink.

Matt and his team create mouthwatering dishes using locally sourced & foraged ingredients, and The Foxhunter is an ideal place to try something new! As an example, the only offal I used to eat was liver (either in paté or fried with onions), but on this visit to the restaurant I decided to go out of my comfort zone - I tried a starter of duck heart. Thanks to Matt & his team, the beautifully tender slices of meat have now cured me an aversion to that particular food!

The lunch & dinner I had there were astounding, and as Matt's portions are VERY generous, it's a good thing there is beautiful countryside to walk around.

I had to return home the same night (yes, 150 miles back), but if you want to take advantage of the extensive wine list (and perhaps an after dinnier liqueur?), then Lisa & Matt have The Cottage & The Old Stable which are self-contained accommodation they let on a self-catering basis (the fridge is stocked with a good supply of breakfast items to give you a good start to the day). Also, some dishes can be ordered from the restaurant to "take away".

So, the travelling is certainly worth it - and if you live in (or are visiting) the area, then The Foxhunter is the place to head for - Wonderful people, comfortable dining & amazing food!

“Nice place to eat with friends”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

A nice ride out in the country to this charming Inn. Nice and relaxing with flagged stone floors and wooden tables. Seating outside. Nice menu. Bit limited on drinks as not a pub with full range of soft drinks etc. A quiet place - get the feeling not everyone has found them yet! Food all home cooked and tasty. Nice bread which you don't pay extra for. If you are in the area - you should try it out.

“Delightful, modern yet traditional eating house”
Reviewed January 24, 2012

I love the decor of this establishment - traditional yet contemporary all at the same time. Good food although I have the impression that the owner doesn't do much cooking there any more. Lunch times offer well priced menus.

Great food in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Longhorn steak is well worth trying. A great place for lunch when you can really appreciate the views.
