What an excellent find to stay for a week. We were made most welcome by the host Mrs Mitchell. She had given us a 'welcome pack' of milk, eggs, home made loaf and cake which were delicious.

We were in the area for one of Europe's largest cultural events - the Eisteddfod and the accommodation was close to the site venue which made travelling very easy to the town of Abergavenny.

Birch Tree Barn was a lovely accommodation to stay, clean, tidy and modern with well equipped Lounge / diner kitchen, two bedrooms and bathroom. Plenty of storage area and washing machine and drying area. Plenty of garden area for the grandsons to play in. I will most certainly will be returning to stay at this self catering accommodation. Highly recommended.

“Absolute perfection in rural setting”
Reviewed July 25, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We recently stayed at this lovely property for 8 nights. The country setting is beautiful. Everything is just as nice as it looks in the photos and our hostess Gillian was very welcoming - she even flew a Canadian flag for the duration of our stay, which was such a nice touch. Gillian greeted us with a welcome pack of milk, bread, butter and lemon cake, which was a huge help as we hadn't had a chance yet to pick up groceries. We were very comfortable there and had lots of room to spread out and relax.

And, I must make mention of the excellent, fast and reliable wifi connection, which received a gold star from our very appreciative children.

We used this location as a base for day trips to the many castles and other attractions in the area, both in Wales and England, including: Caerphilly Castle, Chepstow Castle, Goodrich Castle, Tintern Abbey, White Castle, Raglan Castle, Ludlow and a medieval battle enactment in Tewkesbury.

A large grocery store was less than a 10 minute drive away in Abergavenny and we loved having a washer and dryer to do laundry during our stay,

It was initially a bit tricky for us to find the house on our first day. We arrived at dusk and, as we searched by postal code, the GPS took only took us to the general area. However, Gillian had offered to guide us in by phone if we had any trouble, so we knew we could always call her, if we needed to, and we were able to find it on our own after all.

Thanks for a great stay!

[Driving tip for North American tourists while traveling in Wales - we recommend having a good old-fashioned road map handy to supplement your GPS. Our GPS had a tendency to send us on the narrow single-track roads to many destinations, when other more user-friendly (i.e. wider) roads were available.]

“What a find!”
Reviewed June 22, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

I have just returned from a weekend stay at Birch Tree Barn with my hubby and two friends. The four of us travelled from Kent to Abergavenny to attend a picnic on the Sunday and wanted to find somewhere near to town to stay.
I must say that the barn was an absolute find, and how glad I am that we did! The booking process was easy, and the owner Gill was very communicative.
On arrival, Gill had left us milk, bread, eggs, butter and 4 homemade cakes, which was well received (the cakes hardly touched the sides!). The barn itself is set in beautiful surroundings, and filled with all the mod cons you could want. The bedrooms were ample and the lovely airy front room was brilliant to relax in.
I wouldn't hesitate to book again.

“Relaxing place to stay with views of the countryside from every window.”
Reviewed July 19, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

When we arrived at Birch tree barn. We were so delighted at how nice everything was. We were met by Gill. A really nice lady who showed us around. The barn itself is very well laid out, every window has views of open countryside. The added touch of the welcome pack is great, and very very tasteful. There is nothing missing from Birch tree. So if you want to travel and discover South Wales . Book Birch tree Barn.

“Excellent accomodation, beautiful setting, outstanding hosts; what more could one want!”
Reviewed June 13, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

The Barn is superbly appointed and the district proved perfect for introducing our USA companions to Wales. Nothing was too much bother for our hosts as witnessed by the flying of the Star spangled banner during our stay. Having rented holiday accommodation in several counties and countries I rate this among the very best. Our 4 days were not enough.

“Perfect Weekend Break”
Reviewed September 15, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Thank you Gill for such a lovely warm welcome. We arrived at Birch Tree Barn frazzled after a very long week at work an really looking forward to our weekend break. We were so delighted! The accommodation is mainly across the top floor of a beautifully converted barn. Very modern, light, clean and airy with all 'mod cons' and the most gorgeous views. The location is perfect as close enough to Abergavenny to be 'handy' and far enough away to give you the peace and quiet of country life. On the fist evening we ate at The King of Prussia (just a few minutes walk away) and the meal was delicious! Highly recommend the pork belly :-). On the second evening we chose to stay in with a take away, perfect. We would have loved to have stayed longer and will definitely go back.

“Lovely relaxing break”
Reviewed August 30, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

When we arrived we were given a warm welcome by Gill who kindly showed us around a bit and explained how a few things worked. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely décor a lot of thought has clearly been put into it and it works well. The views from all the windows are lovely, looking out over the fields in the morning seeing the cows grazing etc. was nice and really gave the place a rural feel. We really liked the personal touches that really help make you feel at home at the barn from the beautiful fresh flowers to the eggs, homemade bread (which was lovely I wish my bread tasted that good when I make it!) and homemade cake (which didn't last long! all I can say about the cake is WOW, I bake a lot and my cakes never taste this yummy, I would go back just for the cake!) We found the barn to be the perfect base from which to explore a bit of wales and the perfect place to come back to after a long day, coming back to somewhere nice and comfortable and where you feel at home is really nice especially after a long day! It is fully equipped and has everything you could need to do any cooking you would want to do while there from pots and pans to a dishwasher (no washing up on holiday!) All the extra little things really make this place a home from home and perfect place to stay while in wales. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the barn and would definitely recommend it to friends and family! Our only complaint is that we didn't book for long enough! Other than that it was lovely! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
