“Perfect wedding venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2011

Our wedding was on 17th September 2011, we were lucky enough to be able to stay the night before as well.

The setting of the hotel is stunning, and on visiting it for the first time, about 18 months ago it was pouring with rain on a really miserable day. But as we approached the hotel, we instantly knew this was where we wanted to hold our special day.

Assisted by several members of staff, Rhiannon, Mike (the owner) and Lauren (Wedding and Events Manager) as the hotel went through a period of change, despite the changes it had no effect on what was a very memorable day, due to the professional standards consistently demonstarated at the hotel.

The other staff were also exceptional, always willing to help.

One of the biggest draws after the setting for this hotel, is the food. We have eaten at the hotel on 3 occasions, and each time the food has been fantastic. The restaurant is accredited 2 AA rosettes, which it is very deserving of.

The staircase to the side of the building is a great place for photos of larger groups and well kept grounds, with large lawn and lake, making for some great wedding day shots.

All of the rooms that we have stayed in, have had great views of nearby mountains or the grounds of the hotel. We also managed to have a look around a good number of rooms elsewhere in the hotel.

As well as ourselves being very happy with the hotel and the staff on our big day, we were complimented by many of our guests at how impressed they were with the hotel.

Room Tip: No view in room 3!

My criticisms of this rather charming country house hotel all relate to the overelaborate style of cooking; a style in which the chef's vanity and artistry is considered to be more important than allowing good ingredients to speak for themselves. Consquently, my advice is to chose menu items which are as simple as possible. Soup (probably called "veloute") here is lovely. Other dishes get overwhelmed by a confusing array of competing flavours, bits, pieces, foams and drizzles. The public rooms of the hotel are all comfortable and well appointed. Staff are very good indeed. My room left nothing wanting. The grounds are attractive and well attended, although the immediately surrounding countryside is one of the less interesting in the general area. Rates are relativelyreasonable, so value is good. More than satisfactory.

I have had the pleasure of attending quite a few weddings at Llansantffraed over the last few years and consider myself incredibly fortunate as a result.
This magical country house hotel set in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons benefits from the most fantastic views and is quite possibly one of the most perfect settings for wedding celebrations of all shapes and sizes. It has an arched staircase to one side of the building which is often used for group photographs as well as perfectly manicured lawns and beautiful walled garden. The food is always of the highest quality, and of local provenance – incredibly moist chicken breast, the most tender beef fillets and the most amazingly colourful, aesthetic looking desserts – the food is mouth-watering! Using local produce of the highest quality is clearly the mantra that the kitchen team live by. It’s no surprise that the restaurant has 2 AA rosettes, only a surprise it doesn’t have more.
Owner Mike Morgan and the wedding planner are always on hand to ensure the smooth running of every planned detail, but Mike’s extraordinarily talented team of young staff are an integral part of the way the hotel is run; they are all clearly immensely proud of the jobs that they do and the way they become part of every couples big day, and Mike should be proud of them too. Some of them have become familiar faces, they clearly love being there – building a rapport with guests that I’ve never seen or experienced anywhere else ( and I’ve seen a lot of weddings in lots of different venues, throughout the country ); they always go the extra mile to make sure everyone is happy, the attention to detail shown is truly exemplary. A few – Kirsty and Rhiannon especially, stand out so much that you can see they could have a great future in the hospitality industry.
I have had the pleasure of staying overnight at Llansantffraed on a few occasions ( not at all visits unfortunately !), and can tell you that the views from the bedrooms over the lake and Brecon Beacons, the quality of the products in the rooms - Penhaligon toiletries and Melyn Tregwynt cushions and bed covers, the breakfast in the restaurant which covers everything from buck’s fizz at no additional charge, full Welsh breakfasts and kedgeree to fantastic local juices. The fact that we could stay in the residents bar all night made it even more exciting to stay overnight! On that note – no, the bar doesn’t accept cards, but at every single wedding I’ve attended here, the invitations and bride & groom have told us this in advance – the hotel clearly make it very clear to all couples so that they can tell their guests, and I’ve never experienced anything other than great fun with the two young barmen.
The last time I was here was this August, at a very special and beautiful wedding, and I can only thank Mike and his amazing team for making the day so magical for everyone who attended – I’ve heard nothing but completely complimentary reports. It was lovely to be back, and I hope it won’t be too long before the next invitation drops through the door. This is without a doubt, the best wedding venue in Wales.

Room Tip: Room 19 has the most amazing views, a huge shower and an enormous bed with a beautiful headboard!

Our Wedding was on Saturday 20th August 2011 - It was unbelievable. The quality of the hotel was outstanding. They made everything go like clock work, Lauren and Mike were on hand for everything and made sure everyone had a great time.

We got married at St Bridgets church 2 minutes down the road from the hotel; Lauren helped with my wife before the wedding, ensured the family/wedding party were on time and had their flowers and she made sure everyone was at the church before the bride arrived.

The setting was perfect and hotel and rooms in top condition and clean. No one complained to us about anything and my family are really particular about clean rooms and polite staff.

The reception was set up perfectly, everything was taken care of, the food was unbelievable everything was cooked to perfection and fresh. It was the best food we have ever had. All the guests couldn't stop talking about it on the day and ever since. The staff serving the food were great and couldn't do enough for us. My wife inparticular liked that the next course of the reception wasn't served until she had finished and she was served first each time. A few guests had forgotten to inform us they were vegatarian, changing their meal was no problem for the hotel on with only minutes notice.

The grounds for the photos were just what we wanted. The photographer said they couldn't ask for a better place to photograph. There wasn't a bad photo.

The evening reception was set up with no fuss and was really smooth - they had to change from the afternoon reception and get the band and other entertainment in. The evening reception food was the same standard as the main reception and there was loads. Everyone ate really well, guests spoken with since have all complimented the buffet food we requested saying it was the best they had ever had at a wedding.

We have recommended this hotel to friends for the food, hotel and definently for their wedding.

We had no problems with the bar being cash only as all guests had been informed beforehand in our wedding invite that this was the case.

We couldnt have asked for a better day, and definately recommend Llansantffraed to anyone considering this as a wedding venue.

'The best food at a wedding we have ever had', that is the comments of pretty much all of the guests at our wedding. We thought it was dimpke stunning. Not only that but they also complemented the venue and the service. Of course no place is absolutely perfect, yes it would be good to try ang get a card reader at the bar, and yes the furniture could perhaps do with a bit of update. However from my experience these are minor things. Mike did an absolutely superb job of coordinating things, both prior to the day and on the day itself, he also made clear if we had any concerns or comments to let him know. The venue is near perfect for a country wedding. From the comments we have had the staff were also very good. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the hotel to people.

This venue is not suitable for weddings of circa 60 people. The food quality, volume and delivery was extremely poor (hot starter cold, long delays between courses, one small dish of vegetables between 10 guests). The quality of staff was mixed as some were disinterested in guests needs, a reflection of the mangement. Guests were crammed onto tables that were too small. The overall cost of the wedding was far greater than that I recently paid at a far superior venue in Berkshire. To cap it all the hotel does not accept credit cards over the bar.

We stayed here for my husband's birthday treat having spotted a deal on Groupon that, I think, was meant to keep the hotel busy outside of the main wedding season. Having said that, the location is lovely and the building quite impressive. The room was a little dated, but then you are limited what you can in a Grade 2 listed building. The bathroom had been nicely modernised, and with windows on two aspects the main room was lovely and light and well ventilated.

The highlight of the visit was the food - when we arrived there were truffles and champagne in the room - a cold bottle would have been provided if requested. We then had afternoon tea which was very nice, but it would have been nicer if there were more tables outside. We had to stay indoors due to lack of space.

The real delight though, was Chef Bennet's 7-course taster menu in the evening. Dish after dish of delicious, local and seasonal goodies were delivered with matching wines. Even though I'm a fussy eater, I at least tried everything and was very impressed.
