today we visited Abergavenny a busy market town with some very quaint shops, It seems as if every day is market day , and it is most days , lots of local produce, and on a nice day have a browse , we went to eat in café AUBERGE food good, toilets not. We had a good , two places where the menus were reasonable the COLISEUM MUSEUM( wetherspoons ) and the SWAN HOTEL , and do not forget to go to the indoor market for your eatables, try the stall with the Italian bread , yummy . Castle museum FREE .

Great way to spend a few hours in the sun! Wonderful surroundings, interesting history and a very interesting collection inside the museum. Highly recommended.

The shop is the highlight to be honest but the venue is free after all. Probably a bit ambitious to call it a museum. 6 or so displays with mainly bits of broken pots and old style labels giving dry details on the items. Some of the items are genuinely interesting and the art in the basement is a good talking point. worth an hour if it is raining.

Interesting information on plaques around the castle. The museum was well laid out and included craft items made by local artists.

Abergavenny Museum is rather little, hidden inside the reamains of the castle. Changing exhibitions mean it's never predictable. The staff are very helpful, not just with visitors looking in the museum, but people researching particular subjects, or visitors from America or Australia hoping to find out about their ancestors. Well done Monmouthshire for not threatening closure, as Herefordshire are doing to their museums and libaries. Visitors and locals, let's all visit Abergavenny's museum.
