“Black Boy Inn, Caernarfon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2013

Atmospheric, clean, very comfortable. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast and the restaurant. Caernarfon is probably the best location in N.Wales because of the proximity to the Welsh Highland Railway station; other towns are also easily reachable.

Our room (No2) was atmospheric and very comfortable. Enormous digital TV! WiFi appreciated. Spotless bathroom. No view but what would you expect within the city walls? Wonderful breakfasts in the newly refurbished Coach House across the courtyard. Busy but courteous and friendly staff. Short walk to WHR station, Castle, Refurbished Victoria Dock and supermarket etc. Token control of the parking area worked well for us. No traffic noise but Herring Gulls remind you that you are near the sea. The map on the Inn's website made the Inn very easy to find.

Yes, this is a very well run and professional operation and ticks just about every box. We only had a night here after completing the three-peak challenge but every aspect was positive. Full of charm and character, our room was well equipped, clean and had a massive bed. Food, both evening and breakfast was fine, the local ale was excellent, very friendly locals mainly speaking in Welsh which to a London boy added wonderfully to the overall atmosphere of the place. Add to all this the efficient and often humorous staff, its not surprising its popularity. One downside, the noisy gulls in the night but then if I'd shut my window I wouldn't have heard them!! Will definitely visit/stay again when next in the area.

We took my mum on holiday with us to take a trip down memory lane in the area where as a family we spent so many holidays. The staff took great care of us: I had unfortunately not specified at the time of booking that my mum is 80 years old, and she was on the 2nd floor, but we managed ok! Her single room was indeed quite tiny with very low beams, but as a wee lady she was fine. Our room was lovely but unfortunately the windows did open over the kitchen extractor area, so we had to be careful on timing to avoid food smells! We had lovely weather, so the rooms did get a bit warm, and the sleep quality was mainly affected by the very noisy and sleepless seagulls - no fault of the Inn of course! We ate in the restaurant twice - our only comment would be that although the food is very good, the portions were absolutely huge - we were a bit distressed at the waste, and were never able to get to dessert. Would recommend though - we did enjoy our stay, many thanks.

Room Tip: One of the single rooms has very low beams - beware if you are over 5'6. Bring ear plugs for th...

Stayed for three nights in June 2013, we were in The annex part ( Black Jacks) room was very nice though really lacking anywhere to sit other than the bed. Staff where really helpful and friendly. Food was excellent both the breakfasts and the evening meals. Also served a good selection of real ale which was kept in great condition.

We had a wonderful three nights at this fantastic pub hotel, it has great atmosphere throughout. Our rooms where in the black jacks wing, they where spacious, clean with a separate kitchen area. Good menu selection at breakfast, and vegetarians are well catered for, but try the Welsh breakfast, its to die for. The restaurant menu had a good comprehensive choice and the portions where large and delicious, You must try the crab cakes. Three of our friend where celebrating birthdays, a special mention must go to Michelle who helped organise the party. The main bar had very good real ales, with the ' Rev James bitter' on sale.
