Turned up with my skeptical husband who wasn't too sure but from the moment we stepped through the door, all his fears disappeared. The room was No.3 and had a nice big super king bed. It was very clean and tidy with everything that we could have wanted - ironing board, fan, hair dryer and flat screen tv. Whilst the bathroom is very small, it is completely functional, a fantastic shower and was spotlessly clean. The restaurant: as we were late in arriving, they said that we would have to eat in the bar which wasn't a problem as the menu is the same and the food is of excellent quality. Breakfast was excellent. I've never heard of a breakfast called "One-eyed sailor" but can recommend it whilst my husband thought the Welsh breakfast was the bees knees! The staff were really friendly and I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Stayed for a night in the Black Jack Suite. Large room; good quality furnishings; kitchenette (hob - no oven); peaceful; clean and very comfortable. It is at the top of three flights of stairs; but the quality of the room more than makes up for it.

What set this place apart was the service. We arrived after a serious incident in Beaumaris which invovled a seagull and very large amounts of bird poo. Suffice to say that we and our baby and our buggy were soiled upon presentation. But the staff were incredibly kind and generous and made us feel at home from the off. Michelle in particular saved our holiday!

Breakfast was very good. Ate from the bar menu later in the day. Not haute cuisine but gutsy, honest food served up by friendly staff.

All in all: highly recommended

Thought the inn looked lovely on our arrival. We had booked a two night stay in a junior suite and having worked through the past ten days I was looking forward to rest and relaxation. I had booked a junior suite which was unfortunately at the top of three flights of stairs! The suite however was clean and comfortable. The younge lady who booked us in and showed us to our suite was welcoming, freindly and helpful. She told us times that breakfast and evening meals were served and explained that room service was also available at no extra charge. That evening we dined in the dining room. I asked if room service extended to breakfast (in the hope of a more leisurely start the next day) I was told that this was not available but may be considered if we intented to order a very early breakfast. Oh well. Having read some of the reviews about the food we were looking forward to our meal. We were both however disappointed. I had the sirloin which (despite my ordering medium rare) was rather dry and chewy. I do think this was because the steak was very very thin. Not the juicy tender steak i had been so looking forward to. My partner had the fish in batter which he said was 'ok, but nothing to write home about'. I think we were both very disappointed. Brakfast the first morning was freshly cooked and tasty. The following evening having had a busy day we decided to have an early night and have our evening meal in our suite. When having had a couple of drinks in the bar we reqested room service we were made to feel this was not a welcome request and told there would be a charge of £7.50 per tray. When I queried this having been told otherwise at check in. We were told that the 'dark haired, thin girl' was new. Breakfast the following morning was what I can only describe as chaotic. We were directed to a different room and told the breakfast room had been 'double booked' nothing was set up. We were brought pots of tea and coffee but by the time we had the milk, sugar (and a spoon to stir with) it was cold. Other diners were wandering around looking, asking for cups, side plates etc etc. Not one member of staff had the decency to explain. A simple 'sorry, there has been a bit of a mix up' would, for us, have been welcome. We were so looking forward to spending a lovely, relaxing two night stay at the black boy inn. But came away somewhat disappointed :-(. It was however a really lovely inn

I really must apologize to you regarding the mishaps during your stay .As you stated our reviews are very good and it is unusual for the staff to get things so wrong . I am away myself at this time but i gather a member of staff made a decision which was wrong as regards the breakfast mix up of room bookings. I can again only apologize and if you decide to return which i hope you will , offer a discount on your stay .if you wish to take me up on offer please ask for me by name John Evans and i will ensure you will be more than satisfied.I will of course be speaking to the staff on my return from the far east. Thank you for feedback and hope that you will accept my offer.

Found this lovely inn while looking for somewhere to eat. We popped in and as time was getting on we decided to eat. So glad we did. Food was wonderful. Yes good portions, but after a day exploring it was most welcome. And we ate here for the duration of our stay. No complaints at all. Lovely delicious flavoursome food and pleasant staff to boot. What more could u ask for. Thank you all at The Black Boy

Visited here twice in the last month. What can I say, the food is absolutely lovely! Big portions.

We made a mistake of ordering a starter and a main! WOOOW. It was to big the soup was like a main meal it self. All the food is home made, the chips are lovely!
Very friendly staff. And reasonable prices.

Tip- Save your self for dessert the crumble is to die for!

We stayed two nights at this inn. It was heavily booked & we were glad we had booked ahead.
It is hard to find driving and whilst it advertises off street parking there is only limited spaces, not sufficient for all rooms.
The stafff are very helpful and friendly.
The room was clean & had a four poster bed but was not flash in appointment.
It needs to be bourne in mind that you are staying in an inn around 400 years old, and so sound proofing is not good. Our room was just near the bar so noise didnt abate until 11.45 when the last patrons left.
The breakfast was reasonable.
It is well located within the city walls & is close to the castle & tourist info.
But our overall impression was that it is a bit over piced for what you get and you are paying to stay in a very old inn.
We pre-booked a table in the restaurant, following reviews in Trip Advisor. We enjoyed the meal and the service was good but overall we felt disappointed with the meal.

We are indeed a busy Inn , and yes it does become very crowded here especially at peak season. As regards pricing we are seasonal as mentioned and prices are higher in the summer , but we compete under most hotels in area. Even the premier goes up to £110.00 per night excluding breakfast .But thank you for feedback all has been noted and taken into consideration.

Sunday lunch was an experience we won't be repeating. Tomato soup was good but the mussels starter varied from one bowl of two-thirds empty shells to another member of the party's more than generous portion. The beef roast (overdone and dry) came with inedible, rockhard Yorkshire puddings. A waitress said "I'll tell the chef" but we'll never know if she did as we had no feedback from the kitchen. Two main courses were taken off the bill, but we would have preferred an enjoyable meal.
