“Fantastic meal! Very impressed :-)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Having stayed in the area for one night we decided to try out the best welsh curry house 2007 and we loved it! The staff were very good, friendly and attentive.

The food was excellent, it was served quickly even though it was very busy at the time! Couldn't believe how busy it was on a Monday night which is obviously a good indicator of how popular Sopna is!

If I'm in the area again I would definitely go back!

“Award winning curry house looking a bit tarnished??”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

Disappointed. This is one of our restaurants of choice when visiting North Wales and, not jumping on the bandwagon of other recent reviews, but this award winning restaurant has somewhat lost its glimmer. The staff were attentive as always but we felt rushed (even though it was relatively empty) and the décor is becoming a little tired.
Our chosen dishes were:
Appetizer: poppadum and chutney tray; Starters: chicken chat and prawn purée; Mains: chicken jaflong and chicken balti, pilau and mushroom rice.
All was very average fare but the poppadum’s were stale and the curries were over seasoned (salty) and below their normal excellence (we’ve had this combo many times before). Chef's night off??

A warm welcome & friendly service greeted our first but not last visit to this restaurant. Good & tasty portions at an affordable price.

“Gutted”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

I travel to this neck of the woods regularly and generally always have an Indian Meal when staying overnight. I first eat here a few years ago, on recommendation of a local work colleague. Whilst a few years ago I recall the food being very good (otherwise wouldn't have returned).

The menu has the usual choices but also some items you don't see on more standard menus. Decided to start with some poppadums and chutney tray. When they arrived was disappointed to find they were the supermarket type which are frankly awful. There is nothing better than a traditional poppadum from restaurant so to be served these was disappointing. The lime pickle also seemed to taste extremely salty, to the point I was concerned at my heart stopping - not sure why this was.

Didn't have any draught beer on except carlsberg which was flat and warm. In fairness it seems a trend that more nd more beer is sold from the 660ml bottle at £4+ but here only small bottles of Tiger which were quite pricey.

The main meal was ok, fairly flavoursome although order was slightly wrong. Considering only two people in whole restaurant not sure how this happened.

All side orders seemed quite expensive too...

Asked for water which never arrived and decided to Just pay up and leave. I normally eat in Bengal Spice when up there, which whilst looks a little grim and grubby seems better value and more pleasant service.
