We couldn't fault this place. Jan is personable and friendly and goes the extra mile to help - having ascertained almost straight away that we like decaff coffee (we were offered a drink on arrival), she brought a copious amount of both decaff tea and decaff coffee up to our room to last us for our entire stay. The arrival drink, by the way, was taken on the decking which has been constructed against the top of the old city wall that the house backs on to - what a view, right over the Menai Strait to Anglesey!
Our room was gorgeous - Room 3 - decorated in golds and berry colours, cosy and classic but not in the least bit old-fashioned. The bed is huge and really comfy - the mattress is memory foam, but not the sort that you disappear into, it seems to combine the best of memory foam properties with the best of ordinary-mattress properties!
The recently modernised bathroom is large with its own window, a very decent, stylish electric overhead shower with an enlarged bath area at the shower end, and the bath is a spa-bath, which was fantastic! Plenty of hot water on demand, too. Extra touches in the room included luxurious bathrobes, slippers, choccies, wine glasses, mini fridge with fresh milk and bottled water daily, loads of toiletries, electric toothbrush and spare head. Another lovely extra touch generally was that we could help ourselves to a glass of wine, beer or juice every evening in the guest lounge, before going out to eat.
Breakfast is in the beautifully-decorated dining room at the front of the house, and both the choice and quality of the food was terrific. We can recommend the porridge! Plenty of little extras, again, like chocolate muffins and brownies, fresh fruit, yoghurts, cheese, crackers, crispbread, ham and salami to help yourselves to.
Jan and Beth and team make sure that everyone feels welcome and special but are never overwhelming in their attentions, the perfect hosts.
We can't recommend Victoria highly enough.
