This is a good hotel with friendly staff (though the waitress at breakfast was a bit stern). My room was large and clean; although it was in the annex - the house next door - it looked over the pier and the menai straits. Steps up to the front door of the annex and steps to the hotel itself could be a problem for some. Good beer! Some interesting pubs nearby.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pier and the sea.

My Daughter and I stayed for 6 days in Janaury 2013. All staff were extremely friendly and were always willing to help with information and treated us more like friends than guests. The Room was very comfortable, clean and warm considering it was the middle of winter. Meals were reasonably priced and quality was good. We had rooms above us and occassionally you could hear people walking around, but nothing significant. Great views if you have a room overlooking Menai Strait. Walking distance to town centre was about 15 minutes. Would definitely stay again if we returned to Bangor and have no hesitation in recommending it to friends.

Stayed here November ,2012

Not a bad hotel but overpriced i felt .Although they were good enough to do us a deal when booking ,i wouldn't have wanted to pay any more than we did .The normal price advertised in the hotel is £80 for a double occupancy room & £55 for single occupancy .I felt that this was too much for what you get ,in comparison to other B & B/hotels i've stayed in.

The hotel is in 2 buildings .We were on the 1st floor in the main block . I was in room 12 (I think) facing back & i was happy with the room .It had a nice feel to it & the bed was comfortable. The sea view room was smaller & felt a bit cramped .

When you go into the hotel the initial impression is that it feels dated . If the carpets were changed & some redecoration was done it would give it a more modern feel .
It does have a nice conservatory looking out across the water ,where you have breakfast .

During the visit the breakfast experience was disappointing & i didn't find myself particularly looking forward to it.I found the seats a bit uncomfortable & i've had much better tasting full english's in other b & b's.
I prefer it when all the cereals /juices etc. are laid out for you on a table & you can help yourself but here you order a cereal & they bring you out a small box. Also the service was erratic .No one came out to check if everything was o.k or if you needed anything else .Two mornings we ran out of milk & during breakfast had to go to the kitchen to get some more ,one morning our breakfast arrived as we were still eating our cereal & also there weren't enough conserve pots on the table. The waitresses were nice enough ,although one was quite surly.

One of the main pluses of this hotel is it's good location .In a quietish area ,right by the excellent pier & sea.It was nice having a wander up the (very long) pier after breakfast.

There is plenty of hotel parking right outside & we could always get a space .To walk from here to the centre of Bangor high street i would say takes 15/20 minutes.

The area around Bangor is very scenic with the sea on one side & mountains on the other ,along with the nearby castles.

So overall ,very nice location ,room was fine ,hotel bit dated ,average breakfast & overpriced.

I Stayed here for 1 night passing through, I was welcomed by friendly staff, I had room 1, adequately described by another reviewer, very comfortable, ticked all the boxes.

It was warm, clean, comfortable and cheap.. what more could you possibly want?

This hotel is a great place to stay if you want a nice view looking over the meanai pier. Lovely view in the morning and close proximity to go for an evening stroll.

But there were a few downsides... the rooms (we got a single and double) were very cold. Even at night time where i wouldve thought the heating would be on. It felt very damp staying there and not very comfortable.

I complained the next morning and was provided with a small heater but this did not help.
Unfortunately, our 2 nights stay was ruined by lack of sleep. The walls between each room mustve been thin because i could hear the people chatting next door which also contributed to poor sleep.

On the other hand, breakfast was fab! good choice and service...which almost made up for the sleepless nights.

The Eryl Mor Hotel is a great choice for those visiting the North of Wales and would like to have fantastic views over the Isle of Anglesey

The morning breakfasts are great, if a little biased towards the fried side of the food pyramid, but the ability to pick and choose what you can have mitigates this.

The rooms are clean and comfortable and much larger than you get used to when staying in larger cities. The staff are very friendly and willing to help you settle in and find your way around Bangor.

We have just returned from a three night stay here and are a bit shocked by some of the terrible reviews. It isn't a brilliant hotel but it hits many of the buttons for a two star. We were in Room 1 and were very pleased with it. I was a good size with a slightly strange but useful walk in wardrobe. However the views were simply stunning. It has a small cane settee which you can pull up in front of the window and marvel at the views across the pier across the straits to Anglesey. The double bed was very comfy and we slept like logs. The bathroom had an excellent big powerful shower which warmed us up after a day's walking in the rain. We did have a problem with a radiator in the bathroom that wasn't working properly and needs replacing. I wondered if Room 1 might be noisy at busy times as it was over the bar and restaurant but we had no problems.

The staff were all friendly but the service they offered was variable - some of them would clearly benefit from some customer service training. I don't know if the manager was away when we were there but it felt as if some good management would improve the guest experience no end. An example was that some of the staff smoked, which is normal, but they tended to smoke on the steps outside the front of the hotel. This doesn't create a good impression. I also thought that the all black outfits that the staff wore made them look a bit dour.

The food at breakfast was good and varied. I did find it a bit strange to have to order everything from the waitress at once a bit strange. I would prefer getting my juice and cereal from a buffett table and then order any cooked items from the waitress. I am a bit of a fussy eater and made quite specific requests for my cooked breakfast which they met with perfection every morning. Everything was piping hot except, strangely, the coffee that came luke-warm every morning! The hotel also has a strange way of setting up only some tables for breakfast. The guests seemed to be alone or as couples but the tables were set for fours and fives. On th efirst morning (when you don't know the ropes) we were left standing around for 5 minutes not knowing what to do and were then greeted with a rather brusque instruction to find a table that was set up for breakfast. A "Good morning" would have been nice!! Strangely the same waitress was very friendly the following two mornings!!!

The bar's design isn't very welcoming but we had a couple of drinks and they were fine - the draught beer in particular was good. However the two pubs in walking distance (the Tap & Stiple and the Boatyard) were excellent.

We didn't have evening meal so can't comment but there did seem to be a fair few people eating each night.

The hotel seems to be crying out for a bit of money and imagination to be spent on it. The position is superb with views to die for. there seemed to be space to spare downstairs to modernise and re-organise to give a better customer experience. The bar was crying out for some settees/ easy chairs to make it more comfortable and welcoming. As Bangor is short of decent hotels it is a shame that someone doesn't take a punt at turning this into a good quality boutique hotel of at least a 3* standard.

I guess the acid question would be "would we stay here again?" The answer would be that if we could have room 1 again we would certainly consider it for a couple of nights. But with a little bit of TLC and some sound management it could be so much better......................

Room Tip: Try to get Room 1
