Just returned from another wonderful stay at The Gwesty Cymru. Room 6 was just how I remembered it, comfy bed, lush bathroom and wonderful views over a very rough sea. Our dinner and breakfast were delicious. Oh, and the staff are lovely! Great place to stay.

Room Tip: Room 6 is second floor with fantastic views over sea

This is a top hotel. 5 star across everything. Not just for accommodation and food but for staff too.
Gwesty Cymru is right on the seafront, just across the road from the pier and the beach. We were booked into the Purple Room for two nights, dinner bed and breakfast - our Christmas present from our children. A great choice.
The room's bay window, with two chairs, looks out to the beach and sea. From this first floor window, we watched the starlings evening display of swooping acrobatics before they settled under the pier for the night. Brilliant.
It's a small hotel, in the 'Welsh Rarebits, Hotels of Distinction' booklet, renovated to high modern standards but keeping some of the old, such as the traditional wooden spiral staircase (now carpeted) and sash windows. Everywhere there are celebrations of the Welsh culture.
A busy, open-to-the-public, restaurant at basement level serves mouthwatering meals. We were there on a Sunday and Monday and it was even busy then. Breakfast is another feast.
Perhaps the only drawback (and this is being very picky) is that steps and stairs feature most everywhere for the hotel.
From the hotel entrance gate off the pavement, there are quite a few steps up to the hotel's front door, and also down to the restaurant. That's where breakfast is, so you have to go down a short flight of interior stairs in the morning. The spiral staircase may not suit everyone.
Aberystwyth itself is a great little town to visit - loads to do and see and plenty of different shops if that's what you like. It's also handy as a base for travelling up or down the Cardigan Bay coastline, or into south Snowdonia.

Room Tip: Choose a seaview room if you can.

Went to take my son back to uni after the Xmas break had planned to stay at plas y dderwen b and b as it is cheaper, more personal and far grander property but owner away for xmas. Everything here top quality only draw back we were in room one which suffers noise from reception and bar restaurant until midnight so any light sleepers avoid this room. Television also only portable size in a large room.

Well for the Birthday Treat wifey booked us into the Gwesty Cymru. This is a delightful albeit a small restaurant situated on the seafront in Aberystwyth. It is probably one of the better restaurants in the town but alas there are no sea views as the restaurant is situated down some steps. Indeed the whole arrangement is a tad strange as the design team should have thought about the poor customers who become exposed to the elements whenever another customer opens the front door. It seems as if the bar would have been better at the front and the restaurant further inside. Especially as there is no visual benefit for customer’s by having the front windows in the dining area. Design aside; this is still one of our favourite restaurants in the town and with a little improvement it could become our favourite. The food is well cooked and well presented but there’s still a little something missing from the overall package given the price range. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but it lacks ‘je ne sais quoi’.

At these prices I want to see the owners or a visually identifiable maître d moving amongst the patrons and making them feel a bit special. I want our coats taken and not waited for, and our napkins removed from their holders and placed across our laps as we sit. It would also be beneficial to bring along some fresh cooked bread with olives or olive oil as a welcoming gesture or at least a small complementary bottle of water or even a water jug with some lemon. I’m not asking for a lot, and I certainly don’t mind paying a lot, but when I pay a lot, then I expect a little something. The little something extra that lifts the restaurant from good to excellent and makes me want to return time and time again. Meanwhile I shall share my patronage with some other excellent restaurants in Aberystwyth and further south.

The terrine was superb, as was the accompanying bread and chutney. Although the presentation device was not clever, and when the inevitable overspill occurred onto the table, I would have expected the small smear to be have been cleaned between courses rather than to wait for the customer to ask. The steak and homemade chips were also astoundingly good. The blue cheese sauce being far superior to the pepper one. That’s not just personal choice, it simply was far superior, and we both agreed on that. The crumble with separate ice cream presentation and its texture and tastes were incredibly good. The wine was fair priced but you should not rush to serve the partner until you are certain that the partner is indulging in the wine, she was not.

Overall 4/5 with sufficient room for improvement within the restaurant but there is no need for any improvement in the kitchen. That improvement could lead to an enhanced reputation.

Booked an evening out for a meal with 2 friends.
Absolutely wonderful food, service and attentiveness.
No request was too much. Additional bread etc was no trouble.
The food be it starter, main or sweet was superb.
The wine was also excellent.
Prices are reasonable for the quality of food.
Cannot comment on the accommodation.
The toilets were very clean indeed.

Another warm welcome, a lovely room with chairs in a bay window overlooking the promenade, and very good food using local produce. Not cheap, but well worth the money for the dinner, bed and breakfast package.

Room Tip: Sea views at the front, but can be a bit noisy.
