“Took our booking and rang us to raise the price”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

Having stayed there in February when my daughter visited the university, I rebooked for the weekend of her starting. A week after booking I was called by the hotel who promptly told me the price had gone from £75 to £105 for one night. The word charlatan springs to mind. Now I have to hope he doesn't take the money from my credit card.

Is this really how to run a hotel?

When I pulled up outside I was somewhat dubious, being watched by a bloke sitting on the steps. It turned out to be the owner, who was very friendly. The lift was out of order, so I had to lug my bag up 2 flights, but the room was excellent, very clean, sea view, 2 bottles of mineral water and various toiletries on the dresser, freeview flat screen telly, and a really comfy bed.

In the morning the buffet breakfast was really good all freshly made with an excellent choice of juices, fruit and cereal.

I have another business trip to Aberystwyth in the near and I will be staying here.

We arrived here at about 8.30 and was given a friendly welcome ... Sadly the lift was out of order and we were on the third floor! Once we reached our room we were pleasantly surprised after reading a few bad reviews on here . The room was spotless, lovely new carpeting, beautiful matching furniture, luggage rack , plenty of white towels , the bathroom was very modern with lovely complimentary toiletries , the drinks tray was very full with a variety of hot drink sachets and two bottles of water . There was a phone on the room , free wi fi , and tv, bed had spotless white bedding with extra in the wardrobe, the water pressure in shower was low but that was the only thing. At breakfast we were met with a smile and offered tea or coffee , the breakfast was buffet and couldn't fault it,, a wide choice from fruit juices, fruit tea , cereals, fruit, yoghurtss and a lovely hot buffet , the bacon was nice and lean and thick and hash browns lovely , a very wide choice and all nicely cooked . The staff were friendly and helpful , all in all a very nice stay and would definitely return if in area , great value .

We had no problems at all like the other reviewers faced, our rooms were clean enough but not spotless. Certainly not a well-kept place but still works. Elevator could not be used by guests - even when checking-in with luggages, but it was ready for the staff. Breakfast is just (or just below) OK, but there are many places to have an amazing breakfast in town so there is really no point pushing hard for the experience.

Beds were way too soft for us.

All-in-all, the view and the sound and smell of the sea easliy outweighted all those strange things which we encountered.

Room Tip: Ask if the elevator works, steps are high. Seaside rooms are excellent, No. 7 maybe the best. Top fl...

We did not choose this poorly reviewed hotel but as another family member was already booked in here on this busy graduation week, we wanted to be together. Having read some of the Trip Advisor reviews, I was quite trepidacious about this forthcoming two night stay, and in fact switched our original booking from a back room to a front sea view for an extra cost.(£210 a double for 2 nights with breakfast) On arrival we were cheerily greeted by Simon who manages this Victorian seafront hotel, one of three (Four Seasons, Ty Belgrave are the other two) for owner Emyr Davies. Room 1 directly overlooks the sea and promenade on the first floor. We were pleasantly surprised at the general presentation having an adequately sized clean double bed, together with a single (allowing for 'musical beds' during this extremely hot period - 30 degrees most of the week) The window fully opened two ways, allowing for good ventilation. The bathroom had an excellent shower, and whilst being rather cramped, the towels were fine and the water hot. Their self-rated two star is about right and the refurbishment has been completed since past reviewers visited, but there are several things to pick over - mostly minor - with the exception of the lift, which is apparently waiting for parts. Our daughter was in a front room third floor (17) with a similar great seaview to ours - also with an efficient shower, plenty of hot water and a good bed. Both rooms were clean and well kept generally (although the toilet/bathroom door's lock was stuck).

Unfortunately, the use of the windowless basement room for breakfast is rather unattractive. The breakfast itself, being all buffet with eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, hash browns kept hot by under and over electrics is quite good value. There are mixed cereals, fruit juices, grapefruit and prunes available on the buffet table with tea/coffee to order. Improvements could be made in this area although seemingly it would be hard to re-locate but the introduction of quiet music and the offer of individually prepared eggs would earn a few more 'Brownie' points. The brochure shows an outside front sitting area which is not only unusable as the access is impeded by the structure and steps but also it is littered with cigarette butts; something which can be easily remedied to make an improvement overall.
Despite some of these criticisms, Queensbridge is making a big effort and the staff team are friendly and very helpful. Give it a whirl!

Room Tip: Book a seaview room on the lower floors if possible. If you are fit the third floor is fine but the...

We made a booking in March for two single en-suite rooms for July 10 and 11 for a graduation ceremony. Travelling down, we made three attempts to ring the hotel to say we would not be arriving until about 8.30pm but the phone was never answered. When we arrived, there was a note in the hallway with a number for us to ring, which we did. The owner then arrived and told us he had given our rooms to someone else. We had driven for five hours, were tired and the town was packed for graduation week. He said he had made an alternative reservation for us in a totally different part of town but it was for a twin room with no bathroom. We were so angry and upset by what he had done. The alternative accommodation had a lovely welcoming landlady and the room was spotlessly clean, but, of course, it was not what we had booked. We were told this man does this kind of thing all the time and we would warn everyone to avoid the Queensbridge, which did look grubby and unkempt. I think we had a lucky escape.

Originally booked in Belgrave, 2 mouths in advances, but received call from Belgrave day before visit & told they had relocated us to the Queensbridge, Not Happy - Phoned Belgrave and assured Queens had been refurbished recently. On arrival, wife was paid £140 for Rm (Family) but it was clear Rm 8 was a double, with bung beds put-in. problems identified with Rm; Unable to access wardrobe without moving furniture, damp patch on ceiling, missing slats on bung-beds, bathrm door didn't shut, tiling cracked and poorly fitted in various areas, bath seal looked dirty & inadequate, shower head dirty & over-bed sheet dirty, Wi-fi didn't, lift also out of order. retired to bed around 1130, wok-up by shower curtain fall down, 15-20min's later waters started coming from ceiling above bathrm door, stopped after 10-15min's. Wok-up again around 2, due to an argument outside rm - finally stopped around 5, point being no one from the hotel was in attendance throughout, believe the a customer call them it. Breakfast was adequate but not particularly good. Again unable to find anyone to register our observations or address any reimbursement. Overall, if it hadn't been my daughters Graduation and an alternative hotel was available, I would have re-fused to stay. Lessons Learnt; do-not pay bill until you view room allocated - Belgarve, Four Seasons & Queens alleged to be owned by the same person, so do-not be surprised if your relocated at short notices.
