Owner description: Travelling on the Vale of Rheidol Railway is the finest way to see the stunning Rheidol Valley. We pass through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery as the line twists and turns clinging to the hillside gradually climbing nearly 700ft (200m)from Aberystwyth to reach our destination at Devil’s Bridge. Birds of prey such as Red Kite and Buzzards are regularly seensoaring high above the valley floor and breathtaking views can beenjoyed by all.

We loved this day out and enjoyed a fantastic walk taking in the waterfalls. So relaxing and the children 8 & 6 loved it. The train takes about an hour and so its a good idea to have a drink and a snack on board for the kids. Although there are toilets at the stations there are none on board, so don't be caught short! Lovely day out

The train is reasonably priced however the ticket office is at the bottom of the platform and if you agree to 'gift aid' then a 2 minute ticket buying session can turn into 10 minutes. We thought we were going to miss the train but they appear to hold on until the last person has left the ticket office (which is good).
The views are lovely on the way to (and back from) Devils Bridge.
Do check if you want to look at the waterfalls as they are a separate attraction and none are suitable for small children and buggies (much to my little ones disappointment) so fortunately we were able to have a quick walk back and get the same train back.

Ok so the price is a little bit high but really really worth it. We were lucky enough to do this activity on a beautiful day which made it all the more special. The landscapes are stunning, not to be missed. The train itself is in perfect condition and all the staff were willing to help us and the driver was kind enough to allow our 2 year old to have a look in the drivers cabin and talk to him about the train.
If you are in the area you must do this trip!

At £16 pounds each, this was by far the most expensive activity we did while in Aberystwyth. However, it was well worth it.

The train travels 3/4 of a mile, but at the slow pace, the journey takes an hour. The views along the way are wonderful though, and it is the only way to get the Devil's Bridge if you don't have a car.

Also, although it was actually not overly cold, it started to snow when we arrived at Devil's Bridge. It was a great experience.

Did this trip with elderly mother and other adult family members on a gorgeous summer day in 2010. Views incredible and would not normally be seen unless at such a vantage point. Brought back memories of steam travel for my mother. ( Including when low flying jets brought back memories of Luftwaffe bombing track ahead when en route to Scotland ) Unable to carry on to waterfall walk but enjoyed refreshments at terminus. No hesitation in recommmendation. Good value for monies paid and will return.
