“Great rooms, pleasant service, noise maybe is a variable?”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

This is pricier than Aber B&Bs, but the rooms are very nice - classy in fact, with good wardrobes, bathrobes, a decent desk/make-up area, and in my case a very comfortable sofa as well. When the electrics failed in the room I was given on check-in, they immediately upgraded me to a much bigger room with a lovely view and great bathroom. I agree with Jennie Bee that the breakfast is a little limited in choice for the money, but the lady who served it was very charming and it was nice to lie in bed with tea and toast and a view of the sea.

I was lucky to experience no noise but I was on the top floor and also it was the Easter holidays so the bar was quiet.

My fiance booked a surprise two night stay for my birthday last September at the Castle hotel and i wasn't disappointed. The rooms were large and modernly decorated and had all the facilities we required including a white robe which was a nice touch. The location was fantastic close to the beach and town. Being the end of season there wasn't many tourists around and our room on the top floor was very peaceful. With no reception we checked in via the old pub downstairs which was quiet during our stay but a nice place to relax in the evening. It made the hotel seem more private due to having our own key card to the entrance around the side. The staff were very friendly and delivered our continental style breakfast to our room in the morning. We will definitely visit the castle hotel again if we get the chance.

I do not normally write reviews, but feel I have to warn others about this place. This is not an hotel, but a noisy late-night pub with guest rooms. When we visited, there was loud music playing until 3am, which made it impossible to sleep, at least in our room on first floor. However nice the room, without a chance to sleep until 3.30'ish am, it made the whole experience a misery. I wish I had read TripAdvisor before booking ...

The Castle is a pub with beautifully-appointed, luxury modern rooms. It is a short distance down a street leading to the south beach, so two of the rooms have sea views. Ours was on the second floor where we had an oval window looking out towards the sea and Aberystwyth's stunning sunsets. Having booked, we were disconcerted to see reviews on Trip Advisor reporting noise and disturbance from students out on the town but we needn't have worried. We stayed on a Saturday night in term-time in March (so the temperatures ensured we had the special accoustic secondary glazing firmly shut) and were very peaceful on the second floor. The music in the bar was loud early evening when we popped in but not a decibel of it reached our hideaway. Everything in our large room with its super king size bed was decorated and fitted in understated contemporary style and to a high quality. It is classy. The splendid shower was an absolute treat. Breakfast served to our room was fine - there was no cooked option - but I felt the price of the room justified something a little more special and generous - toast AND Welsh cakes, fruit AND yogurt, not one or the other. A cafetiere and teapot would put the tea and coffee making facilities up a level. But those are quibbles. We had a wonderful night's sleep and the atmosphere of comfort made us feel thoroughly pampered. We would love to stay at The Castle again.

While this hotel's website promises a relaxing stay, the owners have unfortunately forgotten to mention that their 'hotel' consists of a late-night pub with overpriced rooms.

It was a little disconcerting to find that 'check-in' in the afternoon consisted of walking up to the bar. The noise from this bar continued until 3am, at which point the crowds spilled onto the street to continue the party outside.

The following morning, the entire building reeked of stale beer.

It's a shame because the rooms themselves are nice, but this 'hotel' is not worthy of the name - it's a late-night pub and should own up to the fact and stop marketing itself as a £100/night hotel.

This was the second time my boyfriend and I stayed at the Castle Hotel in Aber - my old uni town! First time we stayed in a smaller room on the first floor for one night, and this time for two nights on the top floor in room 7 - one of the larger rooms at the back of the hotel.

We enjoyed our first stay so much that we decided, whilst still there, to rebook in order to celebrate our first anniversary in Aber at the Castle Hotel. The room was spacious, clean, very modern and tastefully decorated to a very high standard. The en-suite had a fantastic rain shower!

The service and the people were amazing - very friendly, and one of the main reasons we decided to return to such a warm and welcoming place. The hotel is also only a mere 30 second walk to the south beach, where we were lucky enough to witness the most beautiful of sunsets!

The Castle Hotel is pretty much the perfect getaway - simple as that! Now that we have found somewhere like this to stay there is no need to go through the hassle again - we can't imagine that there is anywhere better to stay in Aber!

We're very excited about our next trip to Aber, and already thinking of the next trip after that!

Room Tip: Go for a room on the top floor at the back of the hotel to get a quieter room.

Have just returned from a 2 night stay over Christmas whilst visiting relatives in Aberystwyth.

We were welcomed warmly on Christmas Eve and shown to our room on the second floor. Our room was very modern, tastefully furnished, nice and warm and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was also ultra modern with a shower cubicle with a powerful overhead shower. Plenty of hot water, lovely white fluffy towels and bathrobes.

A Continental breakfast is provided with an excellent selection of cereals, yoghurts, toast and fresh fruit. This is delivered to your door every morning.

The hotel is in a great location, only about a 5 minute walk from the centre of town.

We would not hesitate to stay here again. The price paid is what you would expect to pay for a room of this quality and was therefore excellent value for money.
