Spending a few days in Worcester and in need of a coffee, we spotted Cafe Deco. A notice in the window said it was a lovely deco building and cafe over three floors. Being lovers of all things Deco we went inside.
The ground floor was the main cafe, with counter and seats. A selection of cakes and pastries tea/coffees etc was on offer. We thought we would sit on the top floor in the hope of getting a view of the city and to explore the Deco design of the cafe. Sadly, that was not to be. The only thing Deco was the building and deco windows and a small iron deco style bannister rail.
The cafe lacked atmosphere and was very disappointing.
The management could have made such a feature of the building with better decor, furniture and plants a typical deco cafe would have. There were the odd black and white old photo pictures of Worcester and that was it. They completely missed the opportunity to expand and develop the deco feel. Modern cheap furniture and chunky sofas/chairs.
The staff seemed pleseant enough but not overly helpful. The cafe was not overly busy, and the tables could have been cleared quicker and crumbs wiped away and not left behind.
The coffee was tasteless and the cake and pastries dry and possibly stale. For what we had, a touch expensive too. The menu for other food was not vey appealing either.
Using the ladies toilet, I was shocked to see how dirty it was, and had clearly not been cleaned recently, it was only 12.15! The back of the toilet seat was littered with what was obviously pubic hairs and dust, and there was no toilet paper. The handbasin was also dirty and dusty. I'm glad I carry hand gel!
Management, if they are advertising it, and calling it a Deco Cafe, need to make sure thats exactly what it is, and not the big disappointment it curently is.
Next time we will give it a miss!
