To whom etc

Just had to contact you to complain about the Riiverside hotel Evesham. We booked via yourselves for two nights as we have a pre booked meal in Stratford tomorrow night (saturday) and wanted to see Stratford. We found the place with some difficulty at the back of beyond (its 12 miles from Stratford) Initially it looked ok on arrival, apart from some guys doing major car repairs in the car park! but with no-one to greet us on reception - except a stench from the open boiler room nearby! - a lady in non uniform (we assumed she was the owner) eventually turned up to show us our room - she then told us most of the hotel was taken by a wedding party tomorrow (saturday) which bothered us somewhat (from past experience!) but, due to your 24 hour notice cancellation policy and the fact we were tired, decided to stay the first night and asked to cancel the second.
We went out to eat as the restaurant appeared deserted and on our return realised how poor the accommodation was. With rotten window frames bathroom window pane was seperated frome the frame and a magnificent cobweb dangling from the light fitting, no hot water from the basin (It eventually worked this morning) and out of date PAT testing (expired June 2013 on the sticker) there was unprotected unclipped fixed wiring coming from behind the radiator feeding the TV socket (I'm actually an electrician) stained carpet (photos to prove) and we even had to contact the hotel for some toilet paper which never arrived so we had to borrow from a vacant room! There were not even tea making facilities in our room - just a communal set up in the corridor with one cup!! All this for £187 for two nights!!!
We decided we'd had enough and checked out without breakfast. As we did so I made my feelings clear to the proprietor - her response was "what do you expect for £20 each plus vat and breakfast!" She also thought she'd done us a favour by cancelling the second night!
Probably the worst Hotel we have stayed in.
Our eagerly anticipated weekend was ruined as we cancelled the meal and returned home.
We have used booking.com before but never with any problems - but I did feel like refusing to pay on this occasion.

Complained to booking.com who washed their hands of it. NO REFUND!!!

Definitely a no no for any holiday. Spiders and cobwebs everywhere - it took me half an hour to get them all before going to bed !!!! When getting to bed I found that the sheets were stained and unchanged with little hairs over the pillow cases !!!! The furniture was good for a bonfire !! I did not even shower as I was utterly disgusted by the state of the bathroom. Not even a shower head and the sink was blocked and the toilet dirty !!!!! The bathroom mirror was all splashes left over from the previous guests. There were even pills left over on the dressing table from previous guests - that goes to show how the rooms were not even cleaned !!! Then comes the breakfast - freezing cold with fried bread instead of toast - utterly disgusting - it tasted of rancid oil - anything but bread !!! The only good thing about this place was the view from the back. I'd rather sleep in a field than in this hotel !!!!!!!

Dear Sirs

We booked a night at the Riverside Hotel for Saturday 17th August, on arrival the couple in front of us were told that they had been overbooked and the lady behind the counter told them to go to the Evesham Hotel which would be the same cost to them, we were then told then same, we had our young daughter with us of 5 and it was now 10.30 at night and we had no idea where we were as we had travelled from Cambridge to visit friends in Worcester, we were offered a complementary drink but had to get on because our daughter was getting way past it all, so we lugged all our luggage out again and drove off not really know where we were off to, on arrival at the Evesham Hotel we were shocked as the lady had said that we were know going to have to pay double what we were going to pay at the Riverside Hotel, and that the lady on the phone had asked for a good price but was told they could not match, so why did the girl lie to us at the Riverside, we were fuming but had not choice but to pay the 164.00 pounds at it was now 11.00 at night and our daughter was very very tired,

If your holiday accommodation was overbooked and you couldn’t stay there, the holiday company should offer you:
•a full refund, or
•alternative accommodation of a similar standard to the one you booked.

If you have to accept substandard alternative accommodation because you’ve nowhere else to stay, make it clear that you’re accepting the changes under protest. You should then make a claim for out- of-pocket expenses and compensation when your holiday is over.

We have seeked the above legal advise and would be looking at getting a refund for the difference in what we had to pay

We look forward to your comments on the above

After speaking to a lady at the hotel she advised we would not be compensated in any way, we chose to book into the Evesham hotel and take what they offered which was two seperate rooms, i tried to explain to the lady me, my daughter and friend had no idea where we were we were down for the evening from cambridge and my daughter who is only 5 were told by a lady at reception that we could book into the evesham at the same cost, the lady at the evesham said she had told this lady that they had no family rooms left and they could not match there charges, we stayed where we were at the evesham as i say it was late and we were two ladies with a young daughter on our own at eleven at night, not at all happy and also have e mailed the owners twice now and had no reply

The photograph of the Hotel looked the same as when we stayed there 8 years or more ago with a Johannson recommendation, well run Hotel with great food, but there the similarity ends. How can it have gone so wrong in 8 years but it has and very badly. We saw only 2 young men staff who were trying to do everything and they tried hard and were very obliging but they didn't have a clue how to run a Hotel or provide good food and there didn't seem to be anybody else. The first room couldn't be locked and the right key couldn't be found so we were moved next door, nice size rooms but badly in need of refurbishment and the Hotel needs a shed load of money spent to keep it from deteriorating further. Unwelcoming front entrance, badly organised administration (couldn't find our booking), chalk board menu outside Restaurant (not a good sign) which listed very basic meals, most with chips but in fact they didn't have many of the ingredients needed to cook them so limited us to a basic steak and chips. When the food arrived it was luke warm. We picked a red wine which they didn't have and selecting another, cleaned them out of 50% of their red wine, they only had 1 bottle left in the bar, also didn't know which bottles were Brandy. Eggs Benedict for Breakfast should have been on a Muffin but turned up on thin white round toast with cold Hollandaise, (no muffins). Tables weren't set properly, cutlery, glasses and napkins missing for both Dinner and Breakfast. Glad we only had 1 night there. What a sad demise for a previously lovely Hotel.

We stayed here on a wowcher deal given to us as a gift. I had read some reviews but the menu looked really good and I thought it can't be that bad. We stayed in the "turtle suite" which initially looked ok, until we seen the tray full of dirty glasses and cups from the previous guests. TV not working, no fuse in the plug. Toilet didn't flush properly. Several flies squashed on the walls. Only one curtain hanging at the window, the other was in the bottom of the wardrobe. The evening menu didn't vaguely resemble the menu on the website. I ordered the cheeseboard to be told "all we have is cheddar and parmesan". I was surprised to see smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on the breakfast menu, however they were "out of smoked salmon" so I ordered eggs benedict. Two undercooked eggs served in 2 circles of white bread. Staff have no clue. Lovely location on the river however!

My parents visited the riverside several years ago and always used it for special occasions. As it was their 40th wedding anniversary my dad decided it would be nice to go back. We checked the menus on the website and it looked really good so we booked up for 8people on a tuesday evening.

This was last night and oh my goodness how this place hasnt been done for false advertising i do not know!

We arrived at 7.25pm(table booked 7.30pm) and were greeted by a lady wearing what can only be described as a tracksuit at best! The look of horror on her face when we turned up smartly dressed set the alram bells ringing! we asked for a wine list and were brought the actual bottles of wine (some even opened!) to decide which one we would like. The menus are just being printed we were told! and this was just the start!!!

At 8pm still no sign of any menus so we checked, just coming was the reply! 5 minutes later a "boy" with jeans around his ankles and shirt unbuttoned came with a tatty piece of paper which on closer inpsection was somebodys booking form! scribbled on it was tonights menu! absolutely nothing like the website! "handmade" minestrone soup! scampi, riverside burger, lasgne and stuffed something or other. we were told to choose then and there! Lets just say that our drinks were swiftly drunk and we vacated fawlty towers quickly!!

Truely truely awful and very upsetting for my parents who wanted a special occasion only to be given some fake greasy spoon establishment at the best! Such a shame because the location is stunning!
