“Lovely country house spa hotel”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

Friendly staff, great food, comfortable rooms and a superb spa. Worth staying the Sunday night as it is very peaceful from the afternoon onwards.

Really lovely communal rooms downstairs, separated into little areas, with the feel of a private home and tastefully decorated.

Breakfast is superb!

Dormy House is beautiful. Nestled in the Cotswolds in a stunning location with views out to the golf course and rolling countryside. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient throughout our stay. The Spa facilities are wonderful, exceptionally clean, with a couple of steam rooms, and a sauna overlooking the pool. Great reclining cushioned beds by the pool to relax and an outdoor Jacuzzi. The food we had in the Potting Shed was very good, however our afternoon salad selection in the Spa terrace was a little tasteless - although it was the healthy choice! The warm open chicken sandwich was pretty tasty. The rib-eye steak in the evening was very good, as well as a Cotswold Cheese board, and there was a great selection of wine. The Potting Shed menu is a little 'standard' for the prizes and normal pub fare choices i.e. pies, fish and chips etc. They could be a bit more creative given the produce that should be on offer in the area. They don't seem to dial up their "smokehouse" enough for me - smoking their own meats and salmon which is a lovely touch for foodies. Breakfast was a lovely spread though, with homemade Bircher muesli.
Our room was seperate to the hotel in little renovated outhouses, we had a lovely view out over the golf course which was really private compared to some that overlook courtyards. Very comfortable beds, and lovely bedding. Champagne on arrival in the room made it extra special.
Would definitly return, probably in the winter as it would be really cosy during the winter months.

Thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us. We're so pleased that you had a good time. Thanks for the feedback on your dining experience in the Potting Shed. It’s the more relaxed restaurant of the two that we have and our Exec Head Chef, Jon Ingram, designs the menu that served simple but great tasting grub. He uses local suppliers and we do update and change the menu seasonally. We do look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

My husband and i came to Dormy house for a 2 night escape from children and to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. From arriving to leaving we had the most relaxing enjoyable time. We had a splendid room (room 39) which was gorgeous and bigger than we thought it would be. All the Temple products in the room were lovely as were the biscuits which were replaced daily.
We didn't have any treatments but used all the spa facilities which were amazing and spent a lot of time sitting on the spa terrace and relaxing in the most comfortable chairs.
We ate at both restaurants. The Garden Room food was delicious but the starter and main course portions were on the small side. Dessert made up for this though and was too big to finish!
The food in the Potting shed was thoroughly enjoyable my husband said his burger was outstanding as was my beef pie and the portion sizes were perfect!
All in all the 2 days away were 2 of the most relaxing i've had in a very long time and i felt very spoilt!
I would highly recommend this hotel and i'm looking forward to an excuse for a return visit

Room Tip: Im sure all the rooms are lovely - we only saw room 39 but this was very quiet and in a great locati...

Just celebrated our Wedding Anniversary here. Our daughter booked it as a surprise. As soon as you turn into the car park and see the quality of the grounds and the main hotel, you know you are going to have a great time.On parking the car, someone came out and took our bags. Very friendly on reception. We were then escorted to our room, bags where there when we went in. Room was in the grounds, only metres away from Hotel. These rooms are all new and very nicely decorated. All the dressing gowns, towels, bedding etc. are of good quality. Very comfortable bed. The toiletries are also lovely. Great when walked in, fresh, spotless. Good size. Very nice ensuite. Fruit, biscuits, coffee and tea. Service was excellent. Every member of staff was pleasant. The two nights we spent there were made very special. Tim , who we think is the manager? He couldn't have helped more. Nothing was too much trouble. The evening of our Ann. we were given a lovely cake with Happy Anniversary on. We also spent the day in the Spa. Very relaxing, various saunas, tropical shower + and an outside bubble bath. Nice beds to lie on around the infinity pool. Didn't use the gym but looked very good. I had a pedicure by Lucy, really lovely. My husband had a back and neck massage,he said it was really good.On arrival we had a Farmers afternoon tea, really great, with a bit of a twist. Then in the evening we had a food platter between us. Both in The Potting Shed. We were hoping to have an evening meal in the Garden Room but I clicked 7.30 instead of 19.30 when I booked online and they were fully booked.Fortunately the staff on reception realised this and we knew before we went for the meal. So we ate again in The Potting Shed, less formal but again food was great.I did book breakfast correctly on the second morning for The Garden Room. Sunny morning having breakfast outside, looking at a lovely garden. Breakfast was great.Perfect relaxing few days. On checking out we were given a bag with water and biscuits for our journey. Lots of nice little extras, making your stay very special.
First day it poured down, they come out to your car with an umbrella , there was also one in our room. Grounds have been very well planted and designed.
On checking out unfortunately we were shown the full bill instead of just the meals, spa etc. our daughter had paid the balance and had explained it was a surprise and she would pay the balance. Didn't bother us but she was a bit disappointed that this hadn't been dealt with as she had asked.
If you are looking for somewhere special this is certainly the place. Yes, it is more expensive but so worth it. We will certainly be going back.

Room Tip: We only saw our room but feel they would all be great. Hotel and grounds only renovated late last ye...

We stayed here for a birthday treat and it didn't disappoint. Before booking I found the reservations staff so helpful. We arrived early and had lunch in the potting room, then made use of the spa facilities.

In the evening we had a wonderful meal in the Garden room, where again the staff were so helpful and attentive.

It's the little things here that make all the difference, from the milk and papers being delivered to your room to the checking out gift bag as you leave.

A few hotels could learn a lot from this place.

Really enjoyed our one night escape to Dormy House. Our room was called 'The Snug' and had everything we needed including a spacious sitting area and massive metal bath. The styling all over the hotel was excellent. Dinner in the Potting Shed was enjoyable although more non-fish based starters would have been appreciated. Breakfast was of an excellent quality. We enjoyed using the spa and were lucky to enjoy the outside terraces as it was sunny. Like other reviewers have said more indoor seating would be ideal but it didn't affect us as the weather was so nice to sit outside. My only two suggestions are small. The valets were not recognisable as hotel staff. We though they were guests and drive straight past. We were also staying the night after our wedding and had discussed this when booking and during check in and had all our cards with us to open. The hotel didn't acknowledge this at any point in any way during out staff and it left us a little disappointed. Overall though Dormy House is special and we would love to return in the future.

My husband and I recently stayed at Dormy House for one night on their Timeless Spa Break. On arrival, we were impressed with the building and also with the welcome we received from the front desk staff.

As we'd arrived early, our bags were taken care of by reception while we were shown to the Greenhouse for our champagne lunch (delicious, with a nice view of the nearby golf course) on the terrace. Sitting in the sun with a glass of bubbles was definitely a good way to start our break. Following lunch, we were given a tour of the spa (more on this later) and then shown to our room.

Our room was 'Comfortable' grade and located out in the courtyard, rather than in the main house. This was a little unexpected, but was so quiet that it was lovely. The room had a small patio outside with table and chairs and, again, a good view of the golf course. The room itself was very well appointed, with luxury touches. Having just read some other reviews saying that they were 'soul-less', I can't agree. I would say that the rooms are modern in decor, with clean crisp lines and linens. The bathroom is also very nicely done, with Temple Spa toiletries. The only criticism I could make of our room is that the bed was rather firm for our liking.

We then headed back over to the spa, which is definitely the best bit! There are two steam rooms, one sauna, the outside 'bubble pool' and an indoor 16m swimming pool, plus showers. The only fault I could find with this is that there are only eight loungers by the pool and these filled up quickly. We also had spa treatments while there and our therapist (Emma) was excellent. Both my scrub/wrap and my husband's massage were among the best treatments we've had anywhere in the world.

During our stay, we had dinner in the Potting Shed and then breakfast in the Garden Room. Dinner was very enjoyable, although we were tucked away in a room with no windows so could not enjoy the view. The food was still very tasty and my husband was presented with a little birthday cake too! The spread at breakfast was extensive and all very good quality, so very happy with that.

All in all, an excellent stay that could only have been better if we'd stayed an extra night or two. I think we'll be back!
