“LOVELY HOTEL AND GOOD FOOD”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

We have regularly wanted to eat in the Broadway Hotel but never managed to until last night. We arrived at 8pm and unfortunately they seemed a bit busy with a large party. There didn't seem to be enough staff. So we had long delays certainly for the main course (arrived at 8pm and at 9.15 still didn't have it). Fortunately we were so full after the starter we didn't mind, but had we been more hungry it could have been quite irritating. However that aside the restaurant ambience was lovely; the food choices excellent; food quality excellent and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. So we will certainly go back but perhaps book before 8pm!

The Broadway Hotel is a lovely old building with a modern extension in the form of an orangery where the restaurant is situated. Our room was a fair way from the reception with the access being up some stairs, through a door, along a gallery which overlooked the bar, along a corridor, up some stairs, through a door, up some more stairs, around a corner and along a short corridor.
The room itself was a good size with two armchairs, a dressing table, a large screen tv and a king size bed with bedside cabinets. The bathroom was a good size with a shower over the bath.
We had an excellent dinner in the restaurant and a good breakfast the following morning. We went on a special deal which was dinner bed and breakfast for £75 each and although the full dinner was not included, they gave £28 per person towards the meal we had three courses each and only ended up paying for the wine and an extra £4 so I think it was a very good deal. I would definitely go there again.

Room Tip: request a room above or near reception unless you are happy to be on the second floor, no lift thoug...

We stayed at the Broadway some years ago and decided to go back for old times sake. We weren't disappointed. We went with good friends and had a really relaxing stay. There has been a definite transformation since our last visit but cleverly they have managed to keep much of the quirkiness, inglenook fireplaces and the little corridors. The newly refurbished bedrooms were very comfortable, clean and a great mix of the old and new, in very racy colours. All the bedrooms bear the names of Grand National winners and the beautiful Tattersalls restaurant serves the most delicious food. There is definitely an 'equine' feel to the place. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. This was one hotel I was not sorry to return to and I would go back again.

We stayed @ The Broadway Hotel on 19th March, 2013, for two days and absolutely loved it. We took advantage of a 'two nights for one' offer. We stayed in The Abbots room, which overlooks the village green. The room was spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. There was a dressing area outside of the bedroom, which was like a small hallway, containing a double wardrobe and mirror, and another door which led to the bathroom.

Breakfast was excellent and we had a bar meal one night, which was very enjoyable and good value. We sat near the huge inglenook fireplace, and, as it was extremely cold outside, was very welcome. The Minstrels' Gallery, above the bar, also helps to conjure up the building's historical past and added to the atmosphere. There was even a 'celebrity' in the bar. I thought I recognised him from a recent programme about the discovery of Richard III's body in a car park. I asked if he'd presented it and he confirmed he had. His name was Simon Farnaby.

One of the other reviewers, I noticed, criticised the staff at the hotel. We found them to be excellent and, in fact, I commented to my husband, that the staff were one of the hotel's best assets. Everyone we encountered was polite and couldn't do enough to help. We will definitely be going back.

Thank you, also, to the housekeeper and receptionist, who recovered my iPad from the bedroom. We were ten minutes into our journey home when I realised I'd left it behind. I telephoned the hotel and it was in reception waiting for me when we returned.

My husband and I spent to two nights at the Broadway Hotel recently, and we had a very pleasant stay. From the friendly reception staff (and Spud the dog) to the cleaning staff and the brasserie staff, everyone was welcoming and helpful.
Our room was spacious, warm, welcoming, clean.
Breakfast was more than substantial. Orders for hot food were taken and delivered with a minimum of fuss.
We also enjoyed an evening meal in the brasserie where we had a fantastic meal. Staff were terrific, especially Allan with his great sense of humour.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.

We have not been to the Broadway Inn for over a year. Re visited last weekend and what a change. It has under gone a brilliant refit. I love the old place but this is just as good having retained the tradition in a revamp building. We had Sunday lunch in the Tattersall restaurant, the atmosphere was great, the food first class and the service good. We have rediscovered a gem and will be going back ASAP.

Room Tip: Just sit back and enjoy

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of December & a review from another friend has reminded me to leave this feedback.... The hotel is packed with the most unhelpful "helpful" staff I have ever encountered. E.g. Edited highlights of our stay....

We asked for a taxi to take us to a party at a local village & was told by the receptionist in a most "helpful" & protracted way that no taxis would go to that village & we would be best to call a taxi for ourselves. She even gave us a list of numbers.... Would it have been too much trouble to pick up the phone & provide guests with some service herself I wondered? We came back that evening with a card from a local taxi driver who would be willing to provide a service for hotel guests & gave it to her!

We were out all morning & came back at lunchtime to find our room not made up. Housekeeping came while we were getting changed for an evening function & we explained we were getting dressed & asked them for fresh towels & water now & told them the time we would be gone (from memory about 2pm) so they could arrange for the room to be made up then. We were disappointed to find that when we came back at around midnight, there were towels & more water on the floor outside the door but the room had not been made up. We discussed this with the Manager the next day who said that it was a 'breakdown in communication'. No real apology or offer of goodwill gesture, discount, or something to compensate for their mistake.

To paraphrase Rhett Butler, "Frankly my dear, they didn't give a damn".
