“Awesome location with a warm welcome”

Definitely visit this gem of a country pub on the hill in Stanton. Lovely open fire for winter evenings and delicious food. Also very baby friendly.

“The Englishman who went up a mount and came down full”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

I was a memebr of a large (very senior types) walking group who were visiting Stanway on what was, possibly, the only fine day we had albeit a little on the chilly side, My partner and I got there later than the rest of the group (26 of us in all) but were able to order out food separately and in another part of the bar/restaurant. I ordered the mushroom stroganoff, my dearly beloved a baconless brie and bacon panino. We had to wait 15 minutes for our food as mine was being freshly prepared so we had some of the local, Donnington, beers - excfellent. GThe food when it came was first class; in fact there was so much we shared our two dishes to easwe the eating of them. The MS was first rate although it had a tad too much brandy in it and the panini were served correctly prepared. The youbg lady behind the bat kept us entertained throughout the stay and we can thoroughly recommend this inn. A little on the expensive side but decent value for money. It is a honey pot but well worth it but I am not too sure I wopuld want to go there in the walking/tourist high season.

“Its a steep hill but well worth the climb”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

The pub is at the end of the lovely village up a steep hill but there is plenty of parking. The views are great and there is a lovely verranda around the pub with plenty of seats which is great to sit out in the sun.
Inside there is a nice atmosphere with a large open fire place and some nice tables overlooking the village below.
The selection of beers they have is good, we particularly like the BB beer and at £2-90 a pint one of the cheapest around.
We have been to the Mount Inn on two occasions now and both times have been very happy with the meals that we have ordered, a really good selection, well cooked, good portions and we have had very friendly and helpfull service. I would not hesitate to recommend you vist this pub.
Also as a foot note we have stayed twice at The Old Post Office which is just at the bottom of the hill and once again would recommend a vist.

“Very dissapointing, dry, over-cooked unimaginative food.”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Sunday lunch was very unsatisfactory.
Both meals had the life cooked out of them.. Dry, tasteless loin of pork with bland unimaginative vegetables and Paxo type stuffing. Dry, over-cooked shoulder of lamb again with very dull vegetables.. Both dishes were served with exactly the same Bisto type gravy...
There was hardly any atmosphere.
Never again!
