Not being from the area, I read the reviews on Trip Advisor of many restaurants in the area and finally made a group booking of 27 people. Why here? The restaurant staff were very helpful in relation to menu choices and numbers etc prior to the event. We did not need to pre book our meals which was a nice change from the other venues that we had considered in the area.

The food was very well presented and tasted as good as it looked with a good variety. The service was attentive and although the group was split on two tables the meals arrived at roughly the same time. We had our own area of the restaurant which had a good vibe. The waiting staff were busy but we never felt forgotten and everything that we asked for was delivered promptly.

One end of our group were near to the door and with snow outside, it was likely to be a little cooler as people came in and out, but that did not detract from a seamless evening at a 'value for money' price. Some of the wine prices were a little steep, but would I go back and recommend this 'gasto pub' to others - Oh Yes.

A bit harsh on the food which is always of a high standard and reasonably priced. But it is the welcoming staff that set this apart from the standard gourmet pub.
having visited 4 times in the past year I am a fan

We were given a good welcome, and the staff were attentive and friendly -Mr Ponytail has a slightly Basil Fawlty demeanour but is charming! I had booked, which proved unnecessary for a wintry Thursday evening as there were not many diners, but nevertheless the atmosphere was warm. The decor is good and suits the former pub building. The menu is not extensive -which is good -and the dishes we had very good: I had braised ox cheek with rump steak bavette (new to me) and my guest had skate. We first shared a chicken liver parfait, with an very very good chutney!

Since discovering The Green Oak we have been back again and again, and it is consistently pleasing! The selection of food is amazing, nothing too pompous or 'try hard' just great food, excellently delivered. My father can be somewhat hard to please and he was full of praise after we brought him along, praise indeed. The polite staff are all friendly and the manageress was really accommodating with our special requests. The wine list is good, could be a little bigger perhaps?
Just wanted to say thanks and we will be back! Great food, amazing service and an overall pleasure, thank you.
