“Was nervous but turned out to be pretty sweet!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2013 via mobile

I was traveling for business and a friend talked me into Windsor. I am glad she did. The hotel is sweet. My room was an older apartment. Room was huge and king bed was fantastic ... Carpet very tired but that is what flip flops are for ... bathroom large and just fine ... Free breakfast fine but nothing special food wise but you eat RIGHT on the Thames and it is really a thrill. I HAD A CLEAR VIEW OF WINDSOR CASTLE from my room which was very pretty with lights at night!! While I was not there to sightsee I did have time to walk around and loved it. Lots of little shops and restaurants. The train to Waterloo or Paddington in London very easy (note: need to buy a ticket ... Oyster card does not work for that leg). While this place is probably nuts in the summer, it was quiet and enjoyable this weekend.

Dear Spartanmom2012,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel.

I am pleased that our amenities and service made a difference and agree that our location is just about perfect for any traveller, whether sightseeing in Windsor or commuting into London.

You be pleased to hear that we are continuing our refurbishment programme and the apartment building that you stayed in this time, will see some improvement works later this year.

Come back soon!

My partner & I stayed on Saturday night. We have stayed at Sir Christopher Wren’s about 6 times over the last 3 years. We booked the hotel about 10 days in advance & booked an executive double – on arrival we had been upgraded to a suite (same room as we previously paid to stay in last October) – very nice touch.

Staff are very polite & always happy to help. When we arrived in our room, we actually felt it was quite cold so we called reception & they bought us another heater up – we left both on while we went out for a couple of hours but on our return it was still very cold. Turned out one of the windows were open & we were unable to shut it. Another call to reception & this was sorted within 5 mins.

The hotel is in brilliant location, close to everything yet not so close you can hear the late night noise!

Parking: the hotel has limited parking on site for £10 per night. Due to booking the room late notice we could not book this. There is a car park literally 100m away & we paid £14 from 2pm on Saturday – 11am on Sunday (pay & display). The car park isn’t security protected but they do have CCTV camera’s so we just made sure we parked in front of one of these!

I’m sure we will be back again this year!

Room Tip: We had a suite which is actually advertised on the website - room 35 in the main building. Second ti...

We were staying at the MacDonald hotel nearby but could use the facilities here. We only paid £4 each and had use of the gym, jacuzzi and sauna. We had the whole gym to ourselves and it had a wide range of equipment. We had a hard workout and then could relax in the jacuzzi. Being outside while it was snowing was cold but with our slippers and dressing gowns on it was fine. The sauna was warm and despite it being fairly busy we felt very relaxed. We could also enjoy the tea/coffee/hot chocolate facilities while reading the paper. To finish off we had a shower and had all the things we could possible need. It was a fantastic experience and would definitely go back again.

Just returned from a nights stay at this hotel. Fantastic location, right on the waterfront in Windsor. Very quaint but charming place with rooms either in the main hotel or in separate buildings within a short stroll. We were in the Swan building, right next to the Spa (didn't have time to use but looked nice & treatments were reasonably priced) which housed 5 rooms on 3 levels. Large room with the biggest bed we've ever experienced-we're tall, 5' 9 & 6' 4 and you could easily have got 3 possibly 4 people in it! Very comfortable too. Ensuite was ok and the room had all the usual stuff you expect when staying in a hotel. Bar & restaurant very nice, overlooking the Thames and breakfast was help yourself from the hot/cold buffet selection. Staff were very friendly, especially on reception. Only downer for us was the great British weather but hey, you can't guarantee that anyhow. Who'd have predicted snow and zero degree temperatures in March!!!! Thanks husband for a lovely weekend. X

Dear Andrea A,

Thank you for your lovely comments regarding your stay with us at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel.

There is nothing more gratifying than being part of our guests special celebrations, and I am glad your husband picked us for your birthday treat.

I have shared your comments regarding the friendliness with all the teams.

Please try and come back in the summer, when you might have a chance to enjoy some sunshine on our river view terrace and watch the world go by.

If you want to stay in centre of Windsor look no further. It does have rooms in separate buildings away from the main one each are furnished to high standard we stayed opposite main building above florist and chocolate theatre cafe. Comfortable. Two pillows! Selection of teas in room. We didn't avail of breakfast but took ours in the chocolate theatre cafe. Ok does seem expensive but we have paid same for a slightly out of town b&b which you did your own breakfast anyway. Must reserve parking first if you want it. Otherwise there are other car parks but can be extremely busy.

Dear Dxmas,

Thank you for your great review of the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel.

I am glad you enjoyed your room in the Bousfield building, which was refurbished late last year. You should try and book the Riverside building next time, which we have just completely refurbished and the rooms are just stunning.

I look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Stayed for 2 nights in an executive room. Room was on the third floor and was a lovely room with desk , several armchairs and a large bathroom with bath and shower. Only downside due to the age and design of building no lift and the stairs are steep. So make sure you ask for a room lower down if you have difficulty in walking. Car park is very small so make sure you reserve a space before you arrive.( Bonus to be able to park car) Staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. Breakfast on the first morning was buffet style due to the hotel being very busy but the second morning was served and cooked to order. Overall the choice was very good and the dining room is lovely being right on the river looking towards Eton. Will definitely say again if in the area.

despite booking 2 months in advance, we were place in the furthest point of the annex, which was across the street. It was a wet weekend and we needed a coat to go to the bar & restaurant. We needed to negotiate 2 flights of grubby stairs, the external stair was unlit and flooded due to a broken gutter. The bar staff were surly and unhelpful, we were told that there was no chance of a sandwich at 2045 hours. After a long day out on Saturday we were looking forward to using the spa but it closed at 1800 hours. Our room was reasonably appointed, but overlooked a nightclub which was noisy until the early hours and took deliveries early in the morning. Next doors showers could clearly be heard , along with banging doors. Our set menu dinner was poor, some items were not even available, and was asked for dinner order prior to drinks. It was very rushed. The bar was ultra expensive, and we ended saturday night wishing we had gone to the local indian. Never again, I would rather stay in a business hotel.

Room Tip: ensure you ask for a room in the main building. the annex is terrible.

Dear johnboy414,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us.

Please let me apologise for your disappointment with some aspects of your stay.

The hotel consists of five buildings and we try and allocate rooms in line with the room types booked and the guest preference, I am sorry you did not like the Nook building, which has the more modern neutral design.

We do pride ourselves in on the excellent customer service we provide, so I was very concerned about your comments regarding the bar staff, especially as we serve a full a la carte menu until 9.45pm and sandwiches all night.

I have taken your comments regarding our Spa opening times on board and you will be delighted to hear that our Spa will now open from 8.00am to 8.00pm during the weekends, starting from next week.

I do hope you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back here and I will make sure you get a more traditional room in the main house next time around.

Warm regards
