A royal hunting ground for almost a thousand years, the park is open, full of space, a great place for family visits. It's ideal for exploring as well as for re-visiting favourite places. The Long Walk from Windsor Castle to the Copper Horse is 3 miles each way, in a dead straight line, and lined by avenues of trees the whole way. Park at Bishops Gate, and be away from the Windsor crowds.

Windsor Great Park is a huge open space, which is very good for long walks. There are 3 main car parks. The Virginia Water Car park which it attached to a bar/restaurant and with access onto the Virginia Water Lake footpath. From there it is an easy walk along the lake to the waterfall and ruins from Leptis Magna in one direction and to the Totem Pole in the other.

The Savill Gardens car park is attached to a restaurant and shop and provides access the famous Savill Gardens. It is also within 20 minutes wallk of the Valley Gardens which are particularly well known for their Azaleas in early Summer. The park also has the national collection of heathers in the Heather Garden and is home to two pony polo pitches, where polo matches take place and various horse and pony shows are held. The car parks and the Savill Gardens have entry fees but everything else within the park is free.

I have lived in Old Windsor all my life so know the Great Park well. In September my little grandson was lucky enough to obtain a place at the Royal School in the park. What a beautiful place to start his learning life. It is so beautiful taking him to and from school.

The Autumn leaves were wonderful to see, every shade of yellow, orange, bronze and gold. Then came Winter - there was a hoare frost for several days and the trees were magical in their silver cloaks. Looking forward to the snow and then the Spring blossoms!

I feel very priviledged to be able to see these wonderful sights, which cost nothing and fills the heart with joy. What a wonderful place this is.

So close to central London yet a whole different world. Love the grand open spaces, the trees and the vistas.

Great for a long walk with dramatic views of the castle.

Lots of parking available. Also check out the farm shop which is at the Windsor end of the park.
