We stayed here with two young children and a baby. Whilst the stay was expensive , it was such a memorable treat. The children loved it and so much thought has gone in to catering for their needs. Everywhere was very clean, food was fine given the numbers catered for and with the exception of one woman on reception, staff were really friendly and helpful.
The room was fine and the separate children's area a real bonus. The kids loved having their own space and TV away from the adults and when they were in bed, the adults could relax without disturbing the little ones. Whilst the pool area was fairly small , the water was warm with spacious changing areas and clean towels provided.
The children loved the early evening show. It's a pity that it's the same one each evening and perhaps two different ones alternating would make the experience even better for those staying two nights. Two small lifts aren't enough in a hotel catering for young children - long waits and lots of trekking up stairs.
The only real disappointment was the gift in the safe. After 'cracking the code' the children ( girl aged 4 and boy aged 6 ) were excited to see the bounty. Why on earth do they think that every small girl wants a pink blonde hair Barbie looking ' friends' figure and every small boy a Star Wars? Fine, if your children do and you at least get that option, but some of us prefer not to genderise children from such a young age and especially when the options for girls assume that all they want to do is obsess about their hair, looks and friendships whilst their brothers get to do the really exciting and adventurous stuff. I went to reception to see if I could change the gifts. I was told that none of the other friends ( different skin and hair colours) were stocked - only the blonde one ! Hallo there, the hotel has an International clientele ! I was advised that there was a second option for boys - an aeroplane. When I asked why an aeroplane was only for boys given that girls flew in them also the staff member looked bemused. Lego is such a great product and previously one that was not separated out by gender. It was the same in the Legoland shop, with merchandise clearly genderised - despite Lego being just Lego for decades. If they must have 'girl's toys' can little girls at least have something a bit more exciting and mind stretching than an animate figure in a bikini lounging on a sun bed ? In the bedroom and on the restaurant tables there are boxes of standard Lego which both children adored using ( lovely touch) so the option on the booking form of the same general Lego in the safe would have avoided two small children wanting to know why they had different toys and it ' not being fair'.
For most families Legoland Hotel will be ' a once not very often ' treat as it is expensive and beyond the reach of average incomes. It was though worth saving for such a treat in order to experience the children's real joy and pleasure and for the relaxing Legoland experience it provided.
