“Memorable trip ; shame about gender stereotyping”
Reviewed June 20, 2014

We stayed here with two young children and a baby. Whilst the stay was expensive , it was such a memorable treat. The children loved it and so much thought has gone in to catering for their needs. Everywhere was very clean, food was fine given the numbers catered for and with the exception of one woman on reception, staff were really friendly and helpful.

The room was fine and the separate children's area a real bonus. The kids loved having their own space and TV away from the adults and when they were in bed, the adults could relax without disturbing the little ones. Whilst the pool area was fairly small , the water was warm with spacious changing areas and clean towels provided.

The children loved the early evening show. It's a pity that it's the same one each evening and perhaps two different ones alternating would make the experience even better for those staying two nights. Two small lifts aren't enough in a hotel catering for young children - long waits and lots of trekking up stairs.

The only real disappointment was the gift in the safe. After 'cracking the code' the children ( girl aged 4 and boy aged 6 ) were excited to see the bounty. Why on earth do they think that every small girl wants a pink blonde hair Barbie looking ' friends' figure and every small boy a Star Wars? Fine, if your children do and you at least get that option, but some of us prefer not to genderise children from such a young age and especially when the options for girls assume that all they want to do is obsess about their hair, looks and friendships whilst their brothers get to do the really exciting and adventurous stuff. I went to reception to see if I could change the gifts. I was told that none of the other friends ( different skin and hair colours) were stocked - only the blonde one ! Hallo there, the hotel has an International clientele ! I was advised that there was a second option for boys - an aeroplane. When I asked why an aeroplane was only for boys given that girls flew in them also the staff member looked bemused. Lego is such a great product and previously one that was not separated out by gender. It was the same in the Legoland shop, with merchandise clearly genderised - despite Lego being just Lego for decades. If they must have 'girl's toys' can little girls at least have something a bit more exciting and mind stretching than an animate figure in a bikini lounging on a sun bed ? In the bedroom and on the restaurant tables there are boxes of standard Lego which both children adored using ( lovely touch) so the option on the booking form of the same general Lego in the safe would have avoided two small children wanting to know why they had different toys and it ' not being fair'.

For most families Legoland Hotel will be ' a once not very often ' treat as it is expensive and beyond the reach of average incomes. It was though worth saving for such a treat in order to experience the children's real joy and pleasure and for the relaxing Legoland experience it provided.

We are delighted that your family enjoyed a memorable treat at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort! We would like to apologise for any disappointment that the range of available gifts in the safe may have caused. We believe that children should have equal opportunity to enjoy their favourite LEGO too, regardless of gender. We have therefore passed your comments on to the appropriate departments in order to look into this further.

We really value all of your feedback and thoughts; thank you for taking the time to share them with us.

The hotel staff is very nice and the park makes for a wonderful day. However, our sheets were stained when we arrived, and they did not give us fresh towels on our second day, even though we requested them. Worst thing, my husband and I got stuck in the lift! It 'turned off' came up with the message "out of order" and when we continuously rang the alarm bell, no one came. Quite frightening really. After five minutes of ringing the alarm and getting no response, my husband pried the door open and we climbed out. They did not seem overly concerned about this when we told the front desk. Pretty poor response. Disappointing. Highly recommend the Legoland park, but would not stay at the hotel again.

family of 4 -2 adults-2 kids aged 3 and 6 stayed here last year August! we went for my sons birthday! FANTASTIC hotel. definitley worth the money.
lovely in door swimming pool area- with fun activitys for the kids- ships, splashing buckets, and the pool is warm.
on arrival we were given our park tickets and told to come back at 3 to check in our room- thois gave us time to wonder around the park, and see what attraction and rideds there were- there was also time to que and go on a few rides.
the room was AMAZING we had a pirate room, the kids had there only little 'corner den' to sleep in wioth a bunk bed and tv, with variuos lego toys to play with, there is also a tresure chest in the room-locked with a combination code- the idea is there were 4 question relating to whats in the room, that unlocked the chest- eg: how many skull & bones are on the bedding?
we also booked dinner that evening in the lego restaurant- this is buffet style food was ok, simple burgers, pizza mostly food the kids will be happy to eat.
entertainment is also very near to the restaurant area, with dressed up characters, singing and dancing.
there also games consoles in the upper part of the tree house for the older kids to play.
Early access to the park is OK reason this only allows you to go one 2 rides before actually openeing times for the park- so you still have to que for the popular rides- BUT the QBOT is defintly recommended we got the cheapest one at £60 and it was fantastic, allowing you to book your next ride while your on a ride-with special entrance for QBOT holders, when its was your time to ride.

would defintly go back- very good weekend away for kids

Room Tip: we stayed in pirate room- but im sure all rooms are just a fab

Stayed in one of the premium pirate rooms and it was fantastic. Spotless and the attention to detail was amazing (lego soap and lego sticker on the loo roll). Our son loved the room, everything pirate as a pirate room can be. Even the landing was pirate themed too. There was an abundance of choice in the restaurant and a lot of it - catering for every palette. Very clean too considering lots of messy children. Inside and outside play areas very good, you can always keep an eye on them. If you stay in the hotel you are allowed to access the park at 9.30am, half an our before the day visitors which is good. If I could suggest one thing to the management of the hotel - when taking bookings I would suggest you ask the sex of the children, that way when they open their treasure chest to collect their lego bounty it would be suitable to them ( my son opened his chest and received pink lego! ((which the staff duly changed)). Had a fabulous stay and can't wait to go again. A very happy 6 year old here!!!

Room Tip: If you are only going to go once, then would suggest going for a premium room, just for the wow fact...

We stopped in the superior pirate rooms and wow!! What a fabulous room didn't look much bigger from the others but the attention to detail was worth it! The kids loved the treasure chest and solving the clues and loved the content as well. All the staff were friendly and very helpful and check in waw no mither at all especially with the play area for the kids. We went swimming which granted was a little small but well staffed and everyone had a blast. The extra touch of being able to borrow towels was really good as well.
Bricks restaurant granted not the cheapest but something for everyone and the food was really tasty for both evening and breakfast. Overall we loved every single minute here

Yes it's expensive but it's worth it. Having recently returned from Disneyland Paris the quality of the pirate room in legoland and the attention to detail was far superior. The entrance is great for children and the public areas really well done. The pool area is fab. Ok the food is average but that's not really why you go. I would say eat in the skyline bar not the buffet it's a little calmer and food better, you also get a direct view of the entertainment. So if your kids do wander off at least you can eat your meal and keep an eye on them!
Worth being ready to hit the park at 9.30 as you should get at least 3 rides in before the masses descend.
Final tip is to get lunch, watch the pirate show, see miniland and go to the 4D cinema in the middle few hours of the day. None of the above involve any real queuing at the busiest times and keeps the frustration levels down!
