Great family entertainment on a sunny Summer Monday evening. Special tip; travel down from Waterloo and take the connecting boat service near the Station for the first pint on board to the racecourse 10 minutes away. Lucky people take a winners dinner at the Viceroy in St Leonards Road and overnight in the Holiday Inn Express, for a sausage sandwich breakfast. Travel back to London our South West Trains long ten coach railway, to block the Feltham level crossing and smile at the waiting road drivers, if the signals are red. Life does not get better than Thames Valley horse racing and a Guinness breakfast, maybe only one a month.

As a treat for my racing-mad Dad's 89th birthday we splashed out on Club tickets for Windsor. The weather was miserable - and the venue equally so. The Club enclosure was very cramped, old and tired. There was nowhere to sit, and with the rain EVERYONE was inside battling for the same square footage. With my Dad in a wheelchair there was nowhere under cover for him so we had to get him out and have him scale the near-vertical steps to a place in the stand to watch with shelter. The staff we spoke to were all terribly helpful - but even they couldn't magic up a new stand with 21st century facilities. Won't be going there again.

We recently attended the Racecourse on May day bank holiday, when unfortunately it rained all day. As a birthday treat for my husband we had paid for hospitality tickets in the Castle Restaurant which has views over the finishing line. A really nice restaurant with a good atmosphere. The staff were pleasant and efficient and the food was really nice. I've also been to this course before on a family fun day and have enjoyed both occasions. Obviously a nicer experience when the weather is good, but we still had a good time and I would definitely return.

Went on Bank Holiday May Monday ...yes, in the pouring rain and not quite dressed for it. So, when it is raining, don't be shy to dress like you're heading out for a long walk - a bit of country chic can serve you well even on dry days. Heels are really not recommended due to all the uneven pathways; this not a pseudo Ascot. Food on site, bring toilet paper and wipes (the loos are not well looked after) and emergency umbrella. Lovely place and a great venue for horse racing... just dress appropriately, ladies.

Not being a great fan of racing myself but organising a family outing, I wanted a good all round experience and Windsor races certainly gave us that. Arriving at Windsor and Eton Riverside station, a leisurely coffee in the pub opposite while the punters in our party checked the form in the Racing Post, a short walk past the seriously impressive Windsor Castle to the landing stage, a gentle boat ride to the race course itself, a 5 minute walk and we were inside the Club Enclosure. Based on other reviews we hadn't booked lunch but the Grill Room looked elegant, with a rather Edwardian feel to it, so we asked and were lucky to get a table. The two-course lunch was really nicely cooked, the service with a cheerful smile (great head waiter), and then on to the races. It was called a Garden Party and that was the feel, green lawn with stalls round it, the best thing for me was the small scale and the relaxed feel. Yes, it was a pity about the rain, but I will definitely come again when the sun is shining.
