An average hotel with a great location. The windsor castle is right outside the door and hotel check-in staff were very friendly and helpful. Free car parking was also a bonus. A few improvements can be made however. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and way too soft, barely any natural light could enter the room as there was only 1 small window which faced a wall directly outside and the bathroom was too small and pokey. 0verall you are paying for the location more than the hotel facilities.

Dear Butterz1986,

Thank you for posting a review following your recent stay with us, please be assured I value your comments and will share them with the team and address the points you raise.

With effect from the week commencing the 10th June the hotel has introduced car park charges for residents. The charge applicable to all guests bringing a car with them is £10 per day which is still the best value parking available in Windsor.

Kind Regards,
David Hayden

This was a long weekend break for my wife and myself in a deluxe room on a bed breakfast and evening meal basis, therefore the comments are based on a 3 day overview.
Some of the comments previously posted made us a bit skeptical and apprehensive as to what we had let ourselves in for, but this was mostly unfounded.
The location, as mentioned by many, is superb, located in the middle of Windsor it is convenient for nearly everything from shops to castle, river to railway station, and, with a bit of imagination and the correct room you can just about see the roof of the castle .
The hotel is old, that's what it's supposed to be, the uneven floors and high ceilings add to the character of this building, anyone who likes the clean clinical lines of modern hotels should give this a wide birth.
On arrival the reception staff were very helpful and informative regarding the facilities and available amenities. One word of warning, there is parking charge levied which was not made apparent at the time of booking or check in, although to be fare this has only recently been applied.
The Deluxe room was clean and spacious with old style furniture to suit the character of the hotel. Our room faced the main road although the secondary glazing kept out any sign of street noise and gave us the added pleasure of a birds eye view of the changing of the guard.
The bathroom was adequate for purpose with single sink, bath and shower over. The one disappointing feature of the room must be the shower, you literally had to run around to get wet as the pressure was extremely poor.
The restaurant is extremely good, breakfast was a bit manic as there were a lot of people staying while we were there although the staff were very efficient and the food was excellent. The evening meal was also extremely nice and very well presented, the only fault would be the lack of choice, especially if you were planning to eat in the restaurant regularly. The service in the restaurant was very good and staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful.
Probably my biggest disappointment was the lounge bar, this looked to be a promising oasis with soft music, comfy chairs and a well stocked bar, unfortunately this was all spoiled by poor bar staff that seemed to spend more time talking between themselves and cleaning a mountain of glasses rather than serving the guests, and they charge you the earth for the privilege, fortunately there are numerous bars close to hand that are pleased to releave you of your hard earned cash.
All in all a worthwhile visit although 3 days was long enough.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front in the old part of the hotel

Located in the centre of Windsor opposite the castle. The main building is old and the extension was built in 1990 but feels dated. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the air conditioning was very effective.

All of the staff were very friendly with a special mention for Daphne on reception who was a superb ambassador for Mercure.

Dear MatthewCheetham,

Thank you for posting a review following your recent stay with us. Thank you for your positive feedback about the team, in particular Daphne, which I will be delighted to share with them. The main building of the hotel does date back to the late 1400s and in keeping with the age of the building we do try to retain its character and charm in its decor. I hope we can welcome you back to the hotel in the future.

What a great location! We were literally a few minutes away from Windsor castle and within easy reach for the shops, restaurants etc moreover the sightseeing bus and boat trips were also just a few minutes away. The hotel itself was comfortable and had parking facilities which were a bit tight but you are directed to your space by an attendant. The buffet breakfast was good but the Erving meal wouldn't necessarily satisfy you if you were really hungry (lots of 'drizzle' and not much substance), but there are loads of reasonable alternatives in the area if you need them.

Room Tip: I'm not sure how the rooms are allocated but ours was in a separate building which could be reac...
