Location - in the center of Windsor - very convenient.

Rooms - comfortable beds and furniture, nicely furnished, clean and in nice condition. In-room shower and/or shower-bath (we had three rooms) were clean, modern and attractive.

Food - had breakfast here each morning and one dinner and one lunch during our six-day stay. The food was very good but not exceptional. For some reason, the service the night we had dinner was appallingly slow, possibly the worst I've ever experienced, but I think this must have been unusual.

Staff - polite and helpful.

Notes - free wifi, but the signal in two of our three rooms was non-existent, so wifi was available only in common areas - but even in those cases, the signal was frequently poor and slow. The staff tried to be helpful with this, but they (obviously?) couldn't do much to remedy the problem. Given the importance of using computers and mobil devices for trip planning and communicating, this was a continuing annoyance, unfortunately.

Room Tip: If in-room wifi access is important, make sure you make your preferences clear when checking in, and test the signal in the room before unpacking.

Dear John N,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your stay with us. Please accept my apologies that your dinner service was not up to our usual standard, we will discuss this as a team and take the necessary learnings and actions from it. I have spoken with the property manager also about checking the WIFI speed and signal at the hotel as this is not something we have historically had any issues with. We are planning to put fibre-optic broadband in to the hotel by the end of the year as you rightly point out the importance of this medium in today's cyber world. I hope in the future we can welcome you back to the hotel.

Kind Regards,
David Hayden

Myself and partner had originally booked a two night (Fri-Sat) stay but extended our visit by one night to include the Sunday. We did have to change rooms (to a more expensive suite at the front of the Hotel) but the staff (particularly Daphne) were very accommodating and did everything possible to ensure the room transition was as smooth as possible. The first couple of nights were spent at the rear of the Hotel in a room overlooking the car park. The room (404) was very comfortable and clean although the wardrobe space was slightly limited as it housed an ironing board and spare bedding which had to be removed to enable longer garments to hang properly. There is a function room at the back of the Hotel so if you are looking for peace and quiet you may prefer a room in the front, original part of the building. The suite (room 102) was very spacious with a separate lounge area which prompted us to take breakfast in our room on the Monday morning - a much more relaxed affair than we had experienced in the breakfast room on the two previous mornings. Breakfast was of a good standard but it can get very busy and noisy with the constant clearing of tables and, having had to wait to be seated, we felt we had to vacate our table very promptly afterwards. I appreciate it was a Bank Holiday weekend but it might be an idea to stagger breakfast during busier periods to make it a more relaxed affair for all concerned, including the staff, who despite coping with a very busy service, did it with grace. The staff were very polite and courteous throughout our stay.

Location of this Hotel is perfect, opposite the Guildhall, near the Castle, amidst an array of wonderful pubs and restaurants and a 5 minute stroll to the river. We hopped on a bus to Old Windsor (10 minute journey) and did a circular walk which took us through Savill Gardens, up to the Copper Horse and then down the Long Walk back into Windsor (7.5 miles approx). A wonderful walk with superb views from the Horse.

Highly recommend the North African restaurant in Eton, delicious authentic cooking.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the Hotel are adjacent to the car park and function room which I imagine could get pretty busy at times, may be prudent to check when booking if there are any events on. Rooms at the front of the Hotel are in the old, original building and more authentic although you do have to pay a premium to stay in them.

We got a pokey little room in the back block with a minute, grubby bathroom, which for the money was a bit of a surprise. This is not up to usual Mercure standard and a bit if a surprise for the money. Windsor is an expensive place throughout though.
That said the staff we met were pleasant, if not charming at breakfast.
And the breakfast really is very good indeed.
If you're going to spend no time in your room and need a good kickstart in the morning this is the place.

Dear WhizzKidUK,

Thank you for posting your recent review. I was sorry to read that the room did not meet up to your expectation but was pleased to see that you felt the breakfast was very good. Within the hotel we have bedrooms and bathrooms of varying sizes due to the age of the hotel, if guests do request to move rooms then we will try our best to offer an alternative room which matches the expectation. Once again thank you for your feedback and I hope we can welcome you back to the hotel in the near future.

Stayed in this hotel with my 7 year old son as he wanted to visit Legoland and I didn't want to drive there and back (from Worcestershire) in one day. Most of the staff we came into contact with were very pleasant especially the carpark attendant and reception staff. The bar staff seemed a little miserable and not terribly helpful and I got charged £4.50 and £6.50 for the same drink on 2 different visits to the bar, despite being served by the same staff member?! We had a room in the 'Mews' and although it was a little tired it was very spacious and ideal for me as it had a separate lounge where I could watch tv after putting my son to bed. The air-con would not work but that could have been me! The location of the hotel is fab, we visited Windsor Castle and it is only over the road from the hotel. It is also very near all the shops, bars and eateries you could ever need.
