Overall enjoyed our pre christmas break at Oakley Court. We went for one of the cheaper rooms but it was nicely decorated and of a reasonable size. Overall clean though there were a couple of cobwebs by teh window (picky I know!).
We enjoyed being able to stroll down by the river and through the tennis court area working up an appetite for afternoon tea, which we had in the main lounge room. It was great to be able to sit in the window seat and write out all our christmas cards!
We ate in the restaurant and had a lovely meal - albeit the group sat next to us was a little loud (hardly the hotels fault).
The spa area was compact but had some running machines etc so didn't feel too bad about eating the lovely cooked breakfast! Enjoyed the massages which we had prebooked.
Service on the whole was professional, as you would expect from a medium sized hotel, personally I prefer a friendlier, more casual approach but I understand that is not the standard expected in this style of country house hotel.

We would go back

We had the pleasure of staying at Oakley Court on their Autumn Winter Saver for a romantic weekend. The hotel was stunning! very picturesque with its castlelike appearance, set amongst a large and beautiful landscape, overlooking the Thames and including its own golf greens, and tennis courts! The deluxe room was large, clean and very nice with views of the Thames. Staff were very friendly and professional throughout, and dinner at the restaurant is definitely recommended (menu available on their website), as is their breakfast -the only complaint being that it felt a little rushed.
The hotel is about 5-10 minutes drive from Windsor, and is fairly isolated from any local shops/eateries. Catching a taxi from the Windsor shops cost 14 pounds; which seemed steep! A return trip booked from the hotel the next day cost 8 pounds.
To summarise - we definitely would recommend Oakley Court to anyone considering a stay there.

Having married at Oakley Court and had a great weekend, with helpful staff, great location, great food and fantastic service for us and all our guests, we decided to go back to celebrate our first anniversary. At this point, we couldn't understand a lot of the comments on here about bad service....
To be fair, after the amount of money we spent with them last year, we were given a bit of a discount on our room, one of the Mansion Suites, which was nice of them.
After a trouble-free check-in, we decided to have afternoon tea, but were disappointed to find that we had a choice between sitting in the lounge, which seemed to be hosting some sort of unofficial noisy toddlers party (which I guess can't really be blamed on the hotel), or the smoky bar.
On returning to our room, we discovered that the heating wasn't working (bearing in mind, this is the beginning of November, not mid-summer). After receiving the wrong information from reception about how to turn the heating on, the concierge came up to our room and turned the knob on the radiator, and told us that the heating should be on in around 15mins, which it wasn't, as we discovered the knob on the radiator was actually broken...
We reported the problem again on our way down to dinner, and when we went back to our room afterwards, we found that two small fan heaters had been put in the room (the type you use to keep your feet warm, not the type you heat a whole suite with...). At least they did something though!
Dinner, it has to be said, was very nice, although we did witness the waiting staff standing around giggling like schoolchildren and writing notes to each other at various points in the evening, and when we asked for a bottle of shiraz, the waitress brought a bottle of chardonnay. When she brought us the right bottle, she told us that it was the same wine, just a different colour!!!
One thing we did find strange was that there was no music being played in the restaurant, even very quietly, which was fine later in the evening when it was full, but as when we arrived at 7.30pm it was deathly silent...apart from the giggling staff, that is...
The main problem with our suite during the night was that there was a very strong smell of cigarette smoke - fresh, not stale - it was almost like there was someone stood right outside our door chain smoking. It got so bad that despite the temperature we had to open a couple of windows. On check-out in the morning, we were told that all of their mansion suites are actually smoking, which is ridiculous, in this day and age. So if you're a non-smoker and want a comfortable sleep and to not go home smelling like a pub on a friday night, you have to book one of their standard rooms in the newer part of the building (although at least in the more modern part there's probably more chance of the heating working).
Overall, we were very disappointed, and couldn't help feeling that if you're spending thousands of £s on an event like a wedding you get a far superior level of service than if you are a normal guest.
We left with a feeling that they were understaffed, and didn't have quite enough plates for all the guests, since our plates were taken away from us at breakfast the moment we put our cutlery down.
A very disappointing stay, and such a shame, becuase with the location right by the Thames, and the building itself, it has the potential to be a fantastic hotel...we'll definitely be finding somewhere else to celebrate our 2nd anniversary.

Stayed in the 90s hopefully it has improved now. It looks gorgeous in the ad's. And it is. but on arrival we found out we were not staying in the gothic house but in a normal looking hotelroom separate to that building.Didnt get told that when booking so very disappointing as the whole point was to stay in a goth building not a modern looking one..so check when you book which you are getting. The hot water didnt work that weekend. No discount offered. We treated ourselves to an evening meal in the expensive restaurant and it was nothing special - and my veggie meal had some meat in it! I complained and they discounted slightly but it should have been free as it ruined my evening and is a huge error! and even with the discount and if had been a correct dish, it was still astronomical for what it was. I wonder if we were treated second rate as had gone there on a discount special offer booking in the first place. This gave us no incentive to return.
The grounds are however fabulous and by the river so you could have a really romantic weekend if you make sure you know what you are getting, save up your pennies well in advance too! we ate in windsor the second night to save money. Its a great place to visit Windsor from.
