We have just returned from a day trip to the Body Firm Spa at Oakley Court Hotel.
I am going to write this review in 2 parts - 1 for the hotel, 1 for the spa (which is independently run)
Firstly the positive, and the reasons for the 5 stars- this hotel is beautiful, set in lovely grounds on the river. It looked spectacular even on a cold gloomy january day. We only had lunch here so I cannot comment on the rooms.
We were welcomed by the conciege staff , who were very helpful showing us where the bar was and explaining the meal choices.
We decided to eat lunch in the bar, which is table served. Although the choice was not extensive we all found something to eat . The sandwichs we had were presented very nicely and were very tasty.
All the staff were very pleasant and took time to speak to us.
We will definetly be coming back here when the weather is warmer and we can sit outside.
The 'Spa' - 1 star - this is for the staff
I would actually describe the 'spa' as a leisure club, with beauty treatments.
We were in a party of 3, however there were actually 8 people on a spa day along with all the members of the leisure club, using the facilities.
The looker rooms were cramped and slightly dirty.
The pool was small and overlooked by the gym, with the cardiovascular equipment facing the large glass windows, affording everyone in the gym a good view of everyone in the pool area. Not good for the body concious.
There were only 3 sunloungers and 3 plastic chairs around the pool.
Myself and my sister had our treatments at the same time, leaving my mum to wait for us. Due to the number of people in the pool area, she was unable to relax around the pool as there was no-where to sit and had to sit in a drafty cold reception in her robe.
The jacuzzi looked dirty, with murky water
Our treatments were fine. I had the spa peel which was enjoyable, however the 'mini pedicure' was meerly a file and polish.
My mum and sister had a massage, which was OK, but not the best they have ever had.
The staff were however, very nice and friendly.
If the body firm (who run the spa) are to compete with other spas at hotels locally they seriously need to up the game and improve the facilities here.
