“It has great potential...”
Reviewed February 23, 2011

We statyed at this hotel for one night last January. The location is perfect, it is just in front of the castle and within walking distance to everything that WIndsor has to offer.
The bedrooms are confortable but unfortunately the use of energy lighting make the rooms look dark. There is also a sensor in the bathroom so the lights will turn off even if you are inside which is very annoying.
We had dinner in one of the function rooms and the food was mediocre. It is evident that they do not make all the food in house and some dishes have a manufactured feel like the lemon tart that it was still frozen when served.
Breakfast service was a real embarassment and this was not due to shortage of staff. There was staff everywhere but nobody coordinating what they did. We got the wrong breakfast order and toast was toasted only on one side. On a positive note, the sausages and black pudding were of very high quality like in other Macdonald hotels.
This hotel has great potential but the service and design issues let it down. I have noted from other reviews on this site that the issue with the lighting is a regular topic so I don't understand why the hotel management do not do something about it.

if you are going to the castle make sure you get there early as can get very crowded, the theatre is close as is the high street. The hotel is very friendly and stylish without being too posh ! The breakfast is excellent as are the rooms which have temp. control and seem to be well insulated, good choice of tv channels, liked the tv being heard in the bathroom.

My partner and I stayed here over Valentines weekend with a 2 night offer with 1 night meal through superbreaks. The hotel is located opposite the Castle on the main highstreet. The reception staff were very friendly check in was smooth. We stayed in a 'Classic Room' which was at the back of the hotel- views werent amazing but was quiet. The bed was very comfy, flat screen TV, BOSE ipod dock, powershower in the bathroom with use of bathrobes and slippers. The meal at the resturant was very tasty and excellant service from the waiting staff. I would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a central location for the Castle, Shops and Bars etc however the only downside to the hotel is the parking- we were not advised that there was a little hotel car park so when we arrived we had to park on double yellows by the castle thus getting moved on by the staff at the castle. We were told that the car park was full so had to park in a multistorey about a 10 min walk from the hotel- This cost £25 for 24 hours so is worth calling the hotel to see if they have room in the private car park. Loved the hotel and will go back......

Arrived very late on a Saturday night (early Sunday morning), and staff helped to accomodate us as quickly as they could, and went out of their way to take care of us. They made us feel welcome for our entire stay (5 days) and made sure we had all our needs met, including hunting down duck tape for us the night before we left as one of our vacuum bags was ripped. It may seem trivial but it's the little things that count the most.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed here now, we stayed on Christmas Day and had dinner there which was superb, friendly and helpful staff, all the rooms are big and very comfortable, its right in the centre of Windsor opposite the Castle so perfect for sight seeing and walking around the wonderful town. Looking forward to going back again in the summer.

What a fantastic Hotel, stayed in the Aquamarine Suite which was just out of this world, seer luxury, very spacious with all the added little touches which made my stay very enjoyable. Stayed as part of a large group of people and their rooms were just as fantastic with excellent views of the castle and shopping area, very comfortable, well decorated & comfortable. Excellent location for seeing Windsor. Didn't have any problems at all, found the staff very pleasant & helpful. Didn't stop for dinner but breakfast was very good and service was excellent. I have always stopped at Marriott Hotels as find they very good but staying at the MacDonald Windsor Hotel has definitely been a very pleasant surprise as was far superior to the Marriott Hotels so much so I am booking for my husband and I to visit later in the year for his Birthday / our anniversary. Can't understand how anyone can write a bad review! Well Done Windsor Hotel.

We stayed on their one night DBB package, it was a last minute booking and reservations were extremely helpful noting the request for a bath as these do not come as standard in the basic rooms. Arrival was relatively stress free as car parking was pre booked and check in smooth. The hotel is all new and is really well designed and in a perfect location. It was such a surprise to see such a high spec, our room, although fairly small, was perfect and had all comforts you could want. So now for the negatives, the service in the restaurant really has to be the one of the worst I have ever experienced from dinner right through to breakfast. Possibly as a result of poorly trained or just inexperienced staff but they so let down a lovely hotel. We endured long waits for courses, no cutlery when the food did arrive, drinks arriving 25 mins after ordering just in time for the starters- how long does it take to serve soup and a fishcake? Luke warm wine. A request for non dressed meal arriving covered in dressing and oil, sent back and still covered in oil, how hard is it not to put oil or butter on a vegetable? There was no shortage of staff but they just do not seem to be organised. The real stress was breakfast, admittedly it was busy but surely by now they should be able to deal with this and ensure the customer service does not suffer. Crockery and cutlery were literally thrown onto clearing trolleys while you sat nearby without consideration for people eating, one waiter dressed the table next to us side on so at one point he was practically sitting at on our table! We ordered a tea and coffee, which resulted in a huge pot of tea for my husband while it took another two requests and my breakfast nearly finished before my coffee arrived. On check out the bill was incorrect so the receptionist removed the incorrect items. Plus point was the smooth car collection and very friendly chap dealing with it. If they can address the service points this would be wonderful,
