“Two faces to this hotel”
Reviewed November 8, 2010

Very handy position in Windsor. No outlook from rooms only air conditioning pipes etc.Our room was located over the kitchen area.At ten o'clock at night banging started and carried on until one in the morning. When we enquired at reception the next morning we were told it came from workmen in the kitchen. It wouldn't happen again .That night it started up again I had to phone reception to get it stopped. Not good!Breakfast was very nice if you could get it.We waited ages for tea.there seemed to be a total lack of any sort of order by the staff.Used plates stayed on the table for ages. That was one face the other was very helpful reception staff everything dealt with very quickly .Double bed changed to twin which I had booked .All in all I think the full price of this hotel will stopus coming again Not really worth it

what a lovely hotel everyone was so welcoming, the room was lovely ,clean and the beds lovely and comfortable, just a 5 min walk from train station, close to the castle and town and only a bus ride to lego land, which is why we were their.
i would highly recomend this hotel.

We wanted to get away for my husband's birthday and decided on Windsor because of its proximity to London. We got a great rate on the Macdonald website too - £100 a night.
I'd mentioned it was my husband's birthday on the booking and they upgraded us to a classic suite, which was wonderful. There's just something so nice about a big, comfy room that's all clean and new. We loved it.
Our only complaint was the movement sensitive lighting in the bathroom, which switched off after about 2 minutes. Great intentions, but it proved frustrating when trying to have a bath or shower, as the sensors didn't pick up the movement from there so the other one had to run in every 2 minutes! They are apparently changing them, so it's being sorted.
We had a great meal in the restaurant too and the location is brilliant, right in the centre of Windsor, so very close to the castle.

Would I go back? Probably not. Total stay, 2 people, 1 night, incl breakfast, parking with 1 x £10 round of drinks was £185. It's not worth that. Wonderfully finished, great location but not what you'd expect for the price. Room 108 was lovely but had no view. Internet booking process wasn't easy as I could only find a room only rate on the MacDonalds website. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles. Why would you have two tables with the same number??? Not rocket science to know that things will go wrong? Car parking at £18? Everyones gushingly polite but you need to also be able to do the right things.

* When we checked in we explained we wanted B&B and could only find a room only rate. The lady explained that was all that she could see too? No offer of a resolution. Computer says no type situation
* We went down for breakfast the next morning and asked for a table for two. As we weren't on the list we were asked to sit whilst the guy found the manager to get us a table. We sat. Some people walked straight past us who also weren't on the list, the manager met them and dealt with them first? No one batted an eye lid. We sat for 5 mins? Stop sitting people down as whilst ever you do it this will always happen
* We explained to the manager that we had wanted a B&B rate and he said he'd check and come back to us. He sat us down.
* We placed our order and tucked in to cereals etc. For the next 30 mins we then suffered a complete comedy of errors and had anything bar a relaxing Sunday morning breakfast. Everything for the other table with the same number as ours came to us. We'd ordered similar stuff so it was impossible to know what was what. The haddock was over cooked, the lady on the opposite table got an egg white and no yolk in her poached egg, re ordering tea and coffee took forever. We thought they'd forgot once and after 10 mins ordered again..... and then 2 arrived etc etc etc
* The manager never came back to advise about our breakfast bill we found out when we checked out (on reflection you wouldn't expect the restaurant manager to get involved but he needs to know the person that can)

All in all it was ok structurally and the rooms were nice. The customer experience from start to finish was polite but poor and you'd expect MacDonalds to be better at this. I'm confident that if travelling to Windsor again I can get a far better experience for less than £185

Location perfect right in the heart of winsor almost diectly opp the castle gates, we did drive past it a couple of times as the hotel sign not prominent (its just next door to the very colourful Kath Kidson shop). Greeted by friendly and helpful staff . We had lovely modern, yet cosy good sized rooms with comfy beds!!. The breakfast was enjoyed by all even do a good veggie breakfast!! We enjoyed lunch in the hotel before we left - good food, service and reasonably priced which is often not the case in hotels.
AmyJo on reception deserves a special mention for going that extra mile and adding to our very positive experience at this hotel.

We were lucky to get a half price deal at this hotel for bed and breakfast and were interested to see how a department store could become a hotel, we were very impressed with the result. The room was very nice and not too small like some of the hotels in Windsor high street. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and went out of their way to say hello. The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and very nicely presented. We will hopefully stay here again in the not too distant future.
