I was skeptical as to what this pub would be like having read the reviews but was very pleasantly surprised upon arrival. We had a room at the back of the pub and it had a comfortable double and single bed. The room was well equipped with a small fridge, kettle etc. We had to leave very early the following day and the hotel provided a superb continental breakfast in our rooms the night before so that we could eat when it suited us. It is in a very handy location - about a 10 minute walk to the castle.

The Windsor trooper was a lovely place to stay, we had a family chalet at the back of the pub. The chalet clean and relaxing and had everything we needed, a small kitchenette, shower room, beds enough for 6 of us, a double bed room, 2 singles and a pull out double.
The staff were so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble,
The food served in the pub / resteraunt area was lovely, not overpriced and well presented.
Had a lovely stay and would definately recommend to others, just a shame we could not stay longer!!

We thought that this was a family hotel but were proved very wrong. My very well behaved children were made to feel unwelcome while enjoying a family occasion early one evening, and finally left after some unpleasant comments from the male manager who seemed uninterested in having any form of pleasant dialogue. Very disappointed. Parking is also a big issue. One to avoid for the future.

We are really suprised by the negative comments on here, we stayed here 2 nights ago and really enjoyed our stay. For a very reasonable price we had a large comfortable cabin that slept 5 of us very well. There was a very nice breakfast included in the morning and staff were helpful, friendly and polite throughout our stay.

There were some negatives - parking isn't great but there are some spaces on the car park and on the road. It could also do with an update in terms of room decor, however for £150 to sleep 5 including breakfast, comfy beds, washing and ironing facilities, TV/DVD, Good shower and all in a private apartment so not above a pub - No complaints at all!

Finally, we ate our evening meal here and this was lovely, a really nice restaurant and patio area and homecooked food was lovely. Affordable and just what you would ask for after a long drive or day out.

Would recomend to people staying one or two nights and was impressed with the customer service and family friendly atmosphere. Thank you

Very grateful we only booked for one night. Intestingly we were asked to pay before goingto the room - and I can understand why! Truly the worst room we have ever stayed in - and we have stayed in a great many b&b's. Such a shame as we had a lovely time in Windsor anf would like to visit again. Words cannot describe how horrible our room was. There was a separate block of accommodationto the rear of the pub and canonly assume this is better than the dreadful rooms above the pub.
Two friendly girls running the pub but thats about it on the +ve comments!

We booked in on a Tuesday afternoon and were taken by staff (who seemed to be annoyed at our arrival) through the pub to the outside building with the rooms. Our room (for 3) was basic, quite shabby and dated but clean although very crowded. The double bed had been shoved against the wall and a single added. Linens and towels were fine but the shredded carpet in the bathroom was particularly off-putting. The small fridge worked fine when turned on.

The room was adequate but the breakfast was horrific. We were put into the very cold conservatory dining area (along with the other 2 tables of guests) and eventually brought a cup of instant coffee and a menu. We each ordered the breakfast sandwich. We got two pieces of white bread with a fried egg and a barely warm piece of bacon between. That's it - a greasy, lukewarm mess. The table that chose cold packaged cereal that morning apparently made the same mistake the day before.

The same two staff as were at the check-in were in charge of breakfast. The young man in particular was brusque, somewhat impatient a not at all warm or welcoming.

To say this is a 5-10 minute walk to the castle is a bit exaggerated - more like 15 minutes but it is a decent location to the pedestrian area, shops and the castle. I would say it is not walkable from either train station for the average person with luggage.

Of note: We found the taxi drivers did not want to take us from Windsor Riverside to the hotel as it was a short distance and a couple of them argued over who should take the fare, the "loser" having to do the journey. We could not find a proper taxi (with a meter), only hire cars where the driver tells you how much he wants - in this case 7 GBP for a 5 minute drive. The pub staff called a taxi (hire car) for our return journey. Again, the driver was not impressed with our short journey and large luggage and charged us 6 GBP.

We stayed here in November for my daughters birthday and I must say we were very pleasantly surprised!

The rooms were spacious and clean and the breakfast was very very good. The food at the pub in the evening was also very nice and the staff very friendly and flexible with our requirements (they brought out a slice of cake and sang happy birthday!)

It is situated literally at a 5 minute walk from the castle (which I highly recommend also) and although a little dated on the outside it bursts with character on the inside of the the Windsor trooper!

I would definatley stay again and would recommend this hotel for an exciting weekend away with the family!!
