“Food good but lacks ambience”
Reviewed May 11, 2014

I live just 2 minutes from this hotel but don't visit often as the ambience is lacking. The bar is comfortable and restaurant done in an Italian style which adds authenticity. The fabulous pizzas are not available at lunchtime as the oven is not switched on due to cost! The restaurant food is nice but I have yet to be there when there was any atmosphere. Staff are friendly and generally attentive. Prices reasonable.

We booked this hotel through last minute.com and the price was very good - it included breakfast so sounded like a good deal . I asked at the point of booking if a river view was possible. We would have paid extra. The location is fantastic right by the water front on a quiet corner. The room I was given had a side on partial view. Clean and of adequate size. The temperature was stifling and there was no thermostat on the radiator - no worries I thought just open the window.. Not a problem during the day .. Outside the window at night there was a very powerful spot light which lit up the outside of the building so the thick curtains needed to be fully drawn to block it.. But the temperature was unbearable as no air could get through from the open window. There was a problem with the toilet - it wouldn't flush and had clearly been repaired before. They must have known it was not working when they gave me this room. To the receptionists credit - she gave me the key to the next door room when I went down to use the foyer toilet early next morning - next room had working loo and a lovely river view. Why couldn't we have had that one if it was empty ? Don't they want happy customers ? The most disappointing part was the breakfast - a buffet of food that had clearly been sitting for hours - rubbery eggs, tinned tomatoes , hash browns wet with condensation , greasy sausage, white toast only on offer and the thing was the chef was on hand in the kitchen - why not cook from fresh ? There was clearly only a few residents. The restaurant is an Italian by night and at the rear of the hotel - desserts were still in the chiller from the previous evening, more evidence that things are not made fresh each day. With such a fantastic location why would you not have the breakfast area looking out at the river? I have a daughter near by and could have become a regular customer and with very little effort this could be a very nice hotel. Shame they let themselves down - we will not be back.

Great location, excellent food, good beer and really friendly staff and locals. Fantastic value for money in the restaurant and bar. The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here as a family of 2 adults and 2 children to visit family in local area.

Reception staff lovely and very welcoming and plenty of free parking in hotel car park (a must in Maidenhead!).We had a family suite which was brilliant. Was lovely and very clean with adjoining room for the children and lovely river view for us.Bathroom nice family size too.Free wifi too which had v good signal. Was a bar below us but had no noise from this at all at night.

Breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety and restaurant staff very helpful and friendly.
Overall felt a very happy relaxed atmosphere in this hotel.

Only downside which i can say really is the outside of windows could do with a good clean.lets the cleanliness of the inside down. And very noisy pipes when other rooms using taps/toilets etc would prob take ear plugs next time.

But would def stay again as perfect for family stay.We also loved taking the children to the riverside play area/Jenners to let off some steam.A little gem tucked away and less than 5 mins on foot from the hotel.

Room Tip: Room 209 was a great family suite with river view for parents and quiet room adjoining for children.

Great location, could not get much closer to the river! Friendly staff. Very good food, good value for money breakfast. Rooms could probably be updated decoration and furniture wise, but very serviceable. Plenty of hot water for baths and showers. Plenty of free parking. Will return very soon. Many thanks.

I stayed one night on business. The bar was pleasant and the food excellent. The room was perfectly adequate and my room had a nice view over the river. The lack of a lift could be a problem if you were infirm. Breakfast was excellent. The location was very convenient for the centre of Maidenhead and the M4 also close by. Parking at the hotel was excellent (much easier than the Travellodge in the centre of Maidenhead). I would certainly stay again.

We only stayed for one night and were pleased with our room. Had an excellent meal in the bar, best hunter chicken I've ever tasted. Staff were all warm and friendly. Would definitely return and recommend to friends
