“Proper pub, proper pub people and proper pub food”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Its so good to find a really decent village pub that's not a restaurant. Apparently, this beautiful old pub is owned by the parish council(?) and serves the local community with a surprising range of real ales (at least 5 different ones), real ciders (at least 7) and the usual array of lagers. The menu is short and to the point. It very much does what is says on the tin. We were there on a Tuesday evening and the place was very busy with real local people enjoying themselves without the need of loud music/tv sports etc. For those village pubs that are struggling, come and have a look at this place. Really.

“A weekend made by the Bell”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

Fantastic service, great with the kids, handled 20 mad Irish revelers for 5 days. The manager Yvonne couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating and the staff the same. Food was top notch and the value was incredible both for food and drinks.

I'd love to take the credit for this review but I'm sure it is for a different establishment! We don't have accommodation at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence and that hard working manager is not one of ours.

“Great atmosphere and food”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

A very old inn in a tiny village.
Where you get to sit can make a difference.
Some seats are a bit crowded with drinkers standing by your table and in the new extension at the back it is a very different atmosphere.
Get the right seat next to the fire in the side room and it is a delight.
Menu changes for each service and when an item has sold out, that is it - gone.
Best get in early for a 700 pm dinner.
All food freshly cooked and good.
Small selection of starter, main and pud.
Very popular so do not go late if wanting to eat.
Excellent selection of beers.
The locals keep this one to themselves.
