“The Sounding Arch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

Whilst walking by the Thames we by chance came across the sounding bridge with carries the railway across the Thames from London to the West. It is a Brunel desined bridge and the largest brick built bridge in the world.

came across this by accident and didn't realise the historical / scientific significance, but had a lot of fun with the amazing echo and was wowed by the visual of the sweeping span. kids will have a lot of fun and will probably appreciate the engineering feat

“A little miracle”

You have no secrets on this stretch of the Thames - it's not much but the arch's ability to focus sound is another reason to love engineers.

“Important History”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

Kids need to know the importance of this bridge in the changing shape of the local towns, especially Windsor and Maidenhead. Brunel's engineering brought a wealth of new business to the earea, from London to the West Country. This bridge is the longest, lowest brick arch ever built (or has it been surpassed ever?) and no one ever believed that he could do it. Never say never, I say!

“Just A Bridge”

Nothing against Brunel or his engineering but unless you want to marvel at a wide span bridge made of bricks, I would struggle to call this an attraction.
