“Perfect Indian cooking, clean flavours”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

Went with frineds on Saturday, Service was very good and friendly. Food was amazing all freshly cooked, not oily or greasy, clean flavours with nice spices not too hot for me. Wine list is also very good had a lovely Louis Latour Sauvignon Blanc. Very busy restaurant but enough space between tables so you don't feel squashed in. Will definitely be back

“Elegant Indian Cooking”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

I live in Oxford and there are many Indian restaurants there, all of which are average or below average, except perhaps for the Aziz, but even that does not compare to the Emperor of India. I had no expectations - I was staying overnight with a friend in a hotel and we just wanted to eat somewhere close by. I was bowled over. This is really a cut above most other restaurants, Indian or not. The food is cooked beautifully, with very tasty garnishes, and none of the dishes we had were the bland style of food I'm used to. The dhall was fantastic and so was the bhindi bhaji and a lamb and chillie dish. The poppadoms were incredibly crispy and thin, so to get that detail right boded well for what was to come. This is not an overly formal restaurant but has a sense of occasion and care over detail - and the staff are very friendly, ordering us a taxi that came within a couple of minutes. I couldn't recommend it more highly. Yes it's a bit more expensive than your average Indian restaurant but its definitely worth paying a bit more to get food of this standard.

“Lovely”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

My colleagues and I were looking for a good Indian restaurant and the Emperor of India came highly recommended by our hotel's concierge. We arrived at quite a spacious, well-decorated restaurant and were warmly welcomed by the well-groomed staff. Our waiter was on hand to explain the menu to us and helped us choose our dishes, which were first class. It isn't the cheapest place, but it represented value for money in our opinion as the quality was there. A great evening.

“very nice !”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

well decorated spacious restaurant....nice clean table cloths, cutlery and glasses....excellent food...waiter took loads of time to explain the dishes to us...not cheap....but well presented...and the whole experience will not disappoint so not expensive when you consider the quality of the evening... big car park...probably not suitable for small children because of the upmarket ambience...highly reccommended

“High quality experience”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

First time for me, with the family, and it did not disappoint. High quality food, beautifully cooked, from an excellent varied menu. Even the kids chicken tikka was quite noticeably an improvement on previous experiences at other good restaurants. The service was spot on and friendly and the interior was very nice. Why not 5 stars? Costs are a little too high and as others have said, we had to wait quite a long time to pay at the end but it was still excellent.
