“Charged twice and no refund.”
Reviewed October 24, 2012 via mobile

I used this hotel to treat me a a friend to a spa day. They charged me on the day I made the booking and on the day I had the booking. Thankfully my husband spotted this a couple of weeks later, when they finally returned my call the manager was apologetic and I was sympathetic as accidents happen even though I could ill afford to have 190 wafting through the air so to speak. He informed me my refund would be in my bank in 7 days. Well it is over a month later and I am still chasing my money. The manager is never in and he never returns my calls.

Recently stayed here with a spabreaks.com booking. £99 each for Dinner B+B plus a 30 minute treatment.
On first impressions all was very lovely. Spa treatment was ok, but no interaction from the staff at all for my husband or I. The facilities were clean and tidy. As previously mentioned by other reviews the spa area is small, but very nice.
We were put in the Sandringham Suite, even though we had booked a standard room. So were very pleased with this. Room was lovely with a patio area outside should the weather have been nice enough. Bathroom a little tired, but generally all functional. Shower head a little low; I'm 5'6 and had to duck!!
Food fantastic! We ate off the Menu du Jour as part of the deal and it was delicious! Wine is expensive ranging from £22-£250!
Staff all very helpful and friendly.
There was a wedding the night we stayed, but could not hear the music in our room.

Areas for improvement!!
A) tea and coffee making facilities in the room would be appreciated
B) a bar menu with snacks for during the day
C) a better/bigger ironing board in room
D) breakfast finishes at 0930, this is early for a weekend!
E) The whole room needed a good deep clean
F) shower head needed descaling!

I would stay here again if on a deal, I probably wouldn't pay full price however!

Few minor quibbles - such as Room Service pot of tea was supposed to be served with a slice of cake and a selection of biscuits. No cake! And for £4.20, you'd expect it. The fan in our bathroom wasn't working and the carpet on the stairs was very worn. But a lovely, quiet romantic break. We didn't use the spa facilities, but they looked lovely. The lounge/bar areas were very quiet for a Friday night, but we really appreciated the complimentary glass of sparkling wine. Our deal was for the 'best available room' which I doubt we got, but the bedroom was comfortable and quiet. Would have appreciated feather pillows as the fibre ones are not very nice which was a shame as they spoiled what was an amazingly comfortable bed. Overall a lovely hotel ,though and we will return.

My partner and I have just returned from a 2 night stay purchased through spa breaks.com. We paid £124.50 each for 2 nights which included 3 course dinner on 1 night, full breakfast on both mornings, full use of the spa and 2 30 min treatments each.

The evening meal was lovely. The 3 course set menu meal was included and we were given the option of the set menu of 3 courses or anything from the menu and we could pay any difference in cost.

Wine is a little over priced as paid £16 for 2 glasses.

The spa is small but very clean and nice.

My partner did not want the 2 30 min treatments so I was able to have 120 mins. I was advised I could look at the treatments available and choose what I wanted. After a massage I was given fresh fruit & ice tea. Later in the day I had a manicure & facial and was then given sorbet & fruit tea. The treatments were fantastic and the staff were lovely.

There was a slight mix up with my treatment times but was resolved with no issues.

The dream bath was out of order which I was advised had been faulty for a while which was a shame.

Our room was upgraded to the Sandringham suite and was lovely. No tea/coffee facilities, but not a huge issue.
The shower is very low, I am 5"10 so could not stand directly underneath it. My partner is 6"4 so this was not ideal for him. This was the only downside.

The package we had was great value for money. The 3 course meal is normally charged at £39 each and breakfast is also charged at £23.50 each. All of this was included within the £124.50

Overall we had a fantastic time, the staff were friendly and polite. I would recommend and go back again.

Have just come back from a weekend at this hotel. The young male on reception was very pleasant, and gave a positive impression when we arrived. We were upgraded to a suite, as the spa treatments which were part of our package price, were all booked up, saying that I was advised to see if there were any cancellations, and I did have a manicure. Over all we were pleased with our room. It was very nicely furnished and spotlessly clean, There are no tea making facilities in the room, which is disappointing. I do agree with other reviews though, and the rooms are probably on their last season, and could do with an update. The quality of the food is excellent, but the dining experience less so. Our first breakfast we found most of the tables in a mess, and no staff, but after visiting reception were shown to a table outside of the restaurant, and had a full English brought to the table. The second morning, again loads of uncleared tables, and even though we were not told, we worked out that cooked breakfast was 'help yourself'. There was not enough items for everyone to get in one go, and when items ran out, they were replaced slowly, and with small amounts. I wanted mushrooms which had run out, so seeing a fresh tray being brought in, made my way to the queue, and they had all gone by the time It was my turn, so I went without. When you pay £23 for breakfast, the hotel should make sure they get it right. The evening meal which was part of our weekend package was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life. The quality of the food was excellant, but the staff and the atmoshere of the dining room reminded me of sitting an exam, with teachers hovering. They were annoyingly attentive, to the point they were intrusive, and when they werent at our table, they were stood in a line watching us. The Spa was ok, but very small, as was the gym. There is no hot tub, which surprised me, and the relaxation room, where couples could spend time together was out of order. Overall we had a 'nice' weekend break at this hotel, but it is advertised as 5* I would give it 3*, apart from the quality of the food, which does deserve its current status. Be aware too, that on arrival you have £100 'blocked' in your bank account, incase the hotel decide you owe them anything, for damage etc, after you have checked out. Apparently they have a right to take it upto 5 days after your stay. Never heard of that before. Would not stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here 1 night after he flew in from overseas trip. Arrived 1.30pm and received warm welcome from staff and shown straight to our room after promising that we could have lunch whenever we wanted. Spent and hour or 2 in the Spa which although is small is ok if not busy. Very comfortable room and good food served by very professional friendly staff. Would defiantly return for longer stay.

We booked a spa break here. I booked this hotel based on trip advisor ratings and reviews and, on the whole, we weren't disappointed.
Initially I obtained a quote from off peak luxury but actually got a better deal by booking direct with the hotel. We stayed for 2 nights bed & breakfast. The package included dinner on one night and a 90min treatment in the spa. We also chose to upgrade to one of their suites which was a lovely large room with balcony. Can't really comment on whether the upgrade was worth it as we didn't see the standard rooms.
We chose to have our inclusive meal on the second night so had pre-booked afternoon tea for just after our arrival. Not sure a booking was necessary as no-one else was partaking. Tea was of a good standard with typical sandwiches and cakes although my wife thought the scones a little hard on the outside.
Food quality in the restaurant was superb, I would definitely recommend the breakfast sausages!
There was a choice of menus for dinner, which you could pick and choose from paying a supplement if anything was above the inclusive rate.
We spent most of our middle day in the spa. Which could only be described as compact! The indoor pool area was surrounded by sun loungers but in all there was comfortable seating for no more than 10 or so people. Saying that, if the weather is fine there's plenty more seating outside.
The pool had quirky little controls dotted around below the water line so you could experience jacuzzi and swim jet effects. Over two thirds of the pool was outside which you accessed through a glass door the button to open is just above your head as you swim to the door!
Sauna and steam room and shower effect facilities were good but again on the small side - any more than 3 people in each would be a tight fit.
My inclusive treatment was a 60min massage followed by a facial. Both were good but not memorable. The lady who carried out my treatment never really introduced herself and didn't ask any of the normal questions ie. pressure etc.
One thing that really annoyed was the music in the background that seemed to be the same 10min track over and over and over again! Drove us insane by 2pm.
Overall a very nice small hotel, 37 rooms although I think they might struggle with space if more than half full. When we visited my guess is that only half a dozen or so rooms were taken on the first night and only a few more on the second. Only other minor point I would mention is that there seemed to be a problem with the hot water system as from halfway through our stay we couldn't use the bath or shower with any degree of confidence.
Saying that I would return and / or recommend to friends.
