“Comfortable and convenient”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Five minutes to all the main attractions in Salisbury. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, with friendly, helpful staff. No restaurant on site, but plenty of good options for breakfast and dinner close by. No frills but good value for money.

We'd definitely advise rooms at the back, the front gets noisy late at night.

We had a small courtyard room, certainly delivered on our needs.

Particularly good hot power shower.

All just 2/3 minutes walk from the centre.

The highlight of our England tour this year was to see the mysterious Stonehenge. We had booked an “private inner circle” tour inside the monument, early early in the morning. Thus, rather than to rush there from London, we had decided to spend the night in the nearby town of Salisbury.

City Lodge, looked “decent” on the Internet and very well-priced for the job. So I booked a double room for £30 and hop on a bus from London. We arrived there by 10:30 only to be told by the receptionist that the “Check in is at 3:00 pm”. We were soooo ready for a hot bath and some rest before a stroll down the city, but the music had died out at that moment!!! A complete state of shock. Didn’t know what to do. Left the hand bags with them and throw ourselves out the door, to wonder around aimlessly till the time they would be so kind to let us in.

Coming back at 3:00 pm, sharp, I questioned their “Check Out” times. The receptionist said: “11:00 am”. Can you believe? You enter at 3:00 pm and had to leave at 11:00 am the next day. Does it take 4 full hours to clean one room and get it ready for the next customer? I had traveled the world, but never seen such a thing…

Other than this, our room had old and run down furniture and rather dirty. There were only two nice spots about the place:

1) A comfortable bed with clean, white cotton beddings (However, in our suite room, the bed was inside four walls, without a window. Not able to get fresh air while sleeping was rather disturbing to me (PS: I don’t trust the ACs for air quality)
2) A newly furbished and clean bathroom. (The only downside of the cleaning process were the old and low quality towels)

Ok, my final worlds would be stay at this place, only if you HAVE TO.

Thank you for your review, whilst I understand your frustration in being unable to access your room.

It is a standard policy in hotels world wide to have a window between check out and check in, so all rooms can be methodically cleaned and ready for check ins at 3.00pm. These times are listed on our booking policy. We also have the option of an earlier check in, to be requested prior to arrival.

All rooms have been refurbished in the last couple of years, and I checked the room following your review the room and dispute your comments regarding the furniture.

The suite you were in does have a separate bedroom with windows at the top of the dividing wall, this was done for two reasons, to provide a quiet and restful area for sleep together with a sofa area, providing extra accommodation for families.

I have taken up your comments regarding the towels with our laundry service and this has now been addressed.

As a family business we pride ourselves on providing excellent value for money with clean and fresh rooms, I feel your heading on your review was extremely unfair.

If it is just a room that you need without the frills of Breakfast and Dinner this City Centre location is first class value for money. The allocated room was small, and whilst not totally suitable for spending downtime in was perfectly clean. The En Suite was a good size with a very efficient Shower in addition to a Bath if that is the preference. Fresh Fruit freely available to pick up at Reception was welcome. Heating provided by an electric Heater was adequate although in the cold weather experienced during our 3 night stay my action in an effort to save the operators costs in turning off whilst out was ill advised and remedied on Day 2. Be aware that whilst there is ample Free Parking close by between 6:00pm & 8:00am it is necessary to attend the meter by 8:00am with the necessary coins, but that,I suspect, common with many Salisbury hostelries in this value sector. If value and Bed is what is required this is the place!

Room Tip: I would suspect that rooms at the front might be noisier at night due to proximity of late night ven...

Very good considering the price. The room was small, but clean and comfortable, and had a good night's sleep despite being opposite at least 2 nightclubs. It's a shame that they don't provide any food, but at least they provided a decent amount of milk to have with tea and coffee. It's in a great location for shopping and sightseeing and would probably stay again if they can sort out the TV signal and wi-fi.

Fantastic priced room right in walking distance to the shops, pubs, clubs and restaurants.
Room was good, although a little cold, but the staff were helpful with extra blankets.
We were In a back room so didn't experience any noise, except for the heavy footed guests in the room upstairs!
Would definitely stay again if visiting Salisbury again.
