“Not as expected”

I wasn't a fan. The food tasted good/okay but I like Indians and I thought this place tried to hard to be special without really succeeding. I wouldn't go back.

“It's Indian food but not as you know it - BETTER!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

I thought I had reviewed this restaurant and to my horror found that I had forgotten to put a few words down. I eat here about once a month and when I get overweight again I have to stop!

The ambience is wonderful with a water feature that changes colour and is really quite hypnotic, but can be distracting if you have a weak bladder.

The service is excellent, eat the full menu or you may be in and out rather quickly.

The papdoms and pickles are an excellent place to start and enjoy a nice bottle of Cobra beer while you are trying to make a decision from a very tempting and fascinating menu.

Poppadums are £1.50 for two and the pickles are delicious and definitely home-made.

Welsh lamb seems to be a bit of a speciality and I have to say all the lamb dishes are fantastic.
In the summer they have a starter of lamb dumplings - WOW (£5.10)
Kashmiri lamb off the all year menu - WOW (£14.90)
Lamb chops - so succulent at £14.20

If you do not want to have one of the specialities that you can have a Chicken Kofta for £5.25, Chicken Tikka Mossala for £10.25. I am just gouing through the last few months receipts!

The wine prices are pitched about right. A Pinotage is £17.40, a Carignan Grenach £15.10

I just love this restaurant, the staff look authentic, the food is wonderful and the prices are worth it, but do not expect a cheap bulk standard "Indian nosh" this is sophisticated and most definitely up-market.

“Fantastic, highly recommend.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

Fantastic courteous service matched by the most enjoyable Indian food served anywhere. Staff are friendly, polite and dressed superbly. Highly professional service attentive to your every need. Food cannot be better. Usual drab Korma and Madras are consigned to the small print in the pages of a wonderful and ingenious menu of real substance describing the dish in detail to leave your mouth watering. A wonderful atmosphere to enjoy the most wonderful food presented well, and with so many flavours that simply leave you grinning with joy when eating. Try the curried Welsh Lamb stir fry or Sandalwood Chicken.

“Not your average town centre Indian”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

Visited Anokaa for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. We were warmly greeted on arrival and service throughout was very friendly - you feel they are really trying.
I'd had a sneak preview of the menu on the website, but could happily have chosen any of the delicious sounding dishes. As it was we decided on the slow cooked lamb and baked spiced halibut.. We had to share as both were so good!

This is not your average Indian for sure. I loved the main courses that came with all the appropriate accompaniments, as deemed by the Chef. Some dishes included masala potatoes, others lemon or pilau rice. You therefore didn't need to try and guess what would go with what.
For the quality, the pricing seemed reasonable too.

I would definitely revisit this little gem!
