“Really not great”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

Stayed 1 night, reception staff excellent, very helpful, room ok, clean had all facilities you expect, a bit dated but fine for short stay, lot of steps though so not suitable for everyone. Problems started when i went to the bar/resaturant, dirty tables, staff too busy talking to one another to take orders, eventually went to bar to order, staff came and cleared table but never bothered to wipe it, after about 15 mins i was expecting my starter when a staff member came over to tell me they were out of that starter did i want another so had to wait for another 15mins. I noticed on my bill that i was charged for a bottle of wine even though i only had a glass so had to go back up to bar, eventually after waiting for 10mins for supervisor they credited the amount and said they would drop over a free glass of wine for the mistake, im still waiting for it. Starter was ok nothing to write home about, i ordered an paid the extra for the angus steak which i was looking forward to, it was the worst steak i have ever tried to eat, id rather have eaten the carpet. The table was also never cleaned. Go to fish and chip shop up the road dont dream of eating here.

Room Tip: Rooms fine, avoid restaurant, for light sleeper request room away from front as its on main street.

Didn't stay here, but had breakfast here after a morning Stonehenge tour at the recommendation of our tour guide. It's a good, economical hot breakfast, large restaurant, free wifi.

We stayed here to break up our long drive home. Perhaps, in hindsight, a Saturday night wasn’t the best day to stay above a pub, but we never expected it to be as noisy as it was!

The pub and club went on until the early hours, once they shut and the music ended, I managed to fall asleep, only to be woken up but screaming and shouting outside.

As well as the “partying” noise, you can hear every toilet in the Inn flushing and people slamming doors throughout the night.

For £69 a night, I feel that it was extremely overpriced. The room was very basic and had an overall tatty and shabby appearance. The only good thing about the place was the friendly receptionist.

Miss this place if you want a good night’s sleep!

Room Tip: Try not to have a room at the front.

As overseas visitors we found this hotel to be so very convenient for visiting the cathedral and town. It is very attractive, our room was totally comfortable and the value meals were great. A drawback as senior citizens was negotiating those narrow stairs and having no assistance with our luggage.

We stayed for one night here. Very central, reasonable price but not cheap. The heating was a bit too warm for me and there was a wonky toilet seat but overall quite a good room. Staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very quiet and the bathtowel was the biggest I had ever seen.

Overall I can't complain about the room or staff, both very good, however I had a room over looking bridge street and it seems that there was no sound proofing! All the drunks that were out until nearly 3am and the noise of the pub below have put me off staying ever again, which is a real shame as the building itself is amazing. I even had to listen to someone leaning out of their window in the small hours of the morning, shouting at the drunks to move on as they had just woke up his little boy and if they didn't move he'd come down and sort them not, not the nicest thing in the world to be listening to while trying to sleep!!! So if going to stay at this B and B ask for a room away from the road and as far away from the pub! As for me I'm going back home to sleep :(

Rooms are located above a great pub. Very economical, GREAT VALUE!
large comfortable beds, good size rooms, some rooms have tubs/ others just showers. Ask for your preference. No free toiletries, so bring your own. Wi-fi in Pub, not in rooms. lot's of Character... If you're looking for a great place to stay, big on comfort, low on price. this is the place for you! Walking distance to Salisbury Cathedral... which is a must on your vacation to this area!

Room Tip: Ask for tub/shower combo if this is important to you. lg. King beds are available, as well as fami...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The site of this Wetherspoon pub has been occupied by an inn since the 15th century. By c1520, it was known as the King's Head, and it retained that name until it was rebuilt in the 1880s. The County Hotel was, itself, a change of name some time during the 1880s or 1890s. Before then, it was the Kings Head and Brewery. We have 33 individual bedrooms. All of our rooms are en suite and include tea- and coffee-making facilities, air conditioning, a hair dryer, TV and free Wi-Fi, also available in the pub. Please be aware that we are a Lloyds No 1 bar so we will be playing music in the pub from Thursday to Saturday nights. Limited quiet rooms are available so please telephone in advance to request one. We have no onsite parking but there is a city centre car park we recommend that is only a 3-5 minute walk away. You are able to stop on the pub entrance to unload your luggage before you go and park. ... more   less
